ANAN-8000 power supply (50 VDC converter) issue

Postby DL5RBW » Fri May 31, 2019 6:30 pm

Good evening,

I recently had an issue with the 13,8VDC to 50 VDC stepup converter in my ANAN-8000.

Can anyone check out how Jumper JP3 (BLANK) and Jumper JP7 (BLANK) are set on his/her board? JP7 is on the upper left corner while JP3 is at the bottom on the left. Unfortunately the application note for this board is pretty sparse about the function of that particular jumper/s.

Thanks!

73 Roger

Hi Roger,

I have got a 8000DLE for repair on my bench.

JP3 is set between 250ns and 325ns
JP7 is set between 175ns and 250ns

Could you please set your radio to 200W Pout and read voltage / current on the front panel (Vd 50V) and on your 12V P/S?

Good morning Norbert,

sure - I will reintegrate the radio and post the results.

Thanks for the info on the jumper settings. I wonder why the settings are different for 2 systems actually running in parallel. The Application Notes

https://www.analog.com/media/en/dsp-doc ... 06AAFA.PDF

for this particular board configuration (and other configurations too) call for identical settings. Maybe somebody with a better understanding of DC/DC converters can shed some light on why the settings must be different for this application.

O.k. - here we are:

Voltage DC power supply: 13,9 VDC (no load)
Voltage DC power supply: 13,8 VDC (62 W output)
Voltage DC power supply: 13,78 VDC (132 W output)
Voltage DC input ANAN-8000: 13,9 VDC (no load)
Voltage DC input ANAN-8000: 13,1 VDC (@62 W output)
Voltage DC input ANAN-8000: 12,8 VDC (@132 W output)

Voltage displayed on the ANAN-8000: 50,4 VDC (no load/load)
Idling current on RX flickering between 0,0 and 0,1 A
Idling current (TX but no output): 0,5 to 0,6 A
Current displayed on the ANAN-8000: 4,9 A (@62 W output)
Current displayed on the ANAN-8000: 7,4 A (@130 W output)

I am currently limited to 35 Amperes on the 13,8 VDC side, so I hope the readings for the lower outputs help.
All tests performed with SINGLE tone (TUNE) on a 50 Ohm dummy load

Hi Roger,

thanks for the measurements.

I still have some readings which do not make sense to me. Please let us talk on phone. My email is dl8laq@darc.de.

Hi Norbert,

great phone "QSO" today - sure works faster!

As it might be interesting to the other folks as well meanwhile I got explicite confirmation from Apache Labs Support that the different settings of JP3 and JP7 (see earlier posts) are correct.
