How to upgrade piHPSDR

Postby N9VX » Fri Feb 22, 2019 8:46 pm

A friend brought over a piHPSDR and wants me to upgrade the software from v1.07 to the latest. I run protocol 1, latest hpsdr mrx xxxx on Windows 7, do I assume it can not be upgraded using Windows 7? Looks like I must have Rasberry pi running on something to upgrade the piHPSDR software?

Thanks,

Joe,

The piHPSDR controller IS a Raspberry Pi running Raspian, a form of Linux. To upgrade it you must attach to it somehow so that you can open a console (terminal) window and be able to type Linux commands into it. This means attaching a USB mouse and keyboard to the controller (easiest solution for a Linux newbie), or connecting over the network to it using a tool like Putty to make an SSH connection (very convenient and the choice of true Linux jockeys).

If that is all Greek to you then you have a steep learning curve to climb, because you are going to have to learn basic Linux skills.

All of the piHPSDR software releases, and their attendant documentation which describes how to install/upgrade it (but not how to use Linux), can be found here:

Scott,

Thanks for the info! I attached keyboard and mouse to the piHPSDR and connected to the internet by WiFi. Using Linux commands I upgraded the software.
