Snap Crackle, Pop on Phone Monitor...

Postby Bill in Georgia » Fri Mar 16, 2018 6:17 pm

8000 with Headphone plugged direct in to front panel Headphone monitor...

Upon SSB key-down, you can hear an intermittent Snap/Crackle...under the TX audio... noise does not trail audio, stop talking and it will pop/snap, etc...However the noise is not being transmitted... but it's a nuisance.
Computer is a I7 - 4790, 16GB, 32 bit, MB is a MSI Z97, SSD 450 MB. Sub Score is 7.9 ...computer is solo for Anan SDR .. other than security....

Idea's??

Did it ever work right, or has it always been this way?

Are you able to test VAC audio? If you can do that then you can help rule out a hardware problem vs. a software/OS problem.

I have also had this phenomenon on my 200D Rev24, but after a database reset, it has been good again.

FWIW, I did not have the exact same problem, at least as far as I understand it. I had the usual audio pops and drops in VAC which was more-or-less fully resolved when I did a new computer build. The subsequent updates to the HPSDR software resolved every remnant of the issue.

Bill, if you can use VAC, say with a simple USB headset, to confirm or deny the problem occurs with VAC, that would a helpful and scientific way of determining whether this is a software/OS problem or a hardware problem in the radio.

Failing that, the only buffer setting that really matters when using the radio audio interfaces is the Primary Buffer setting in Settings > Audio > Primary.

See also this thread.

From a starting point of 512 Buffers/192,000 sample rate, ran a series of different settings...No help..

If you bring up SCOPE and key the mike, you can see the pops/cracks etc.....

Went and checked all the Microphone settings ..nothing is close to "0" most ranges are in the -3 to -6 area.

Changed Databases...Did a new Database...

Do not think it's in the DAW, Cubase 5......Ican monitor the input audio feed into the 8000 and it's clean....

Will wire up a hand mike and run mike/8000/ & monitor off the headphone jack to see if we have..??

Oops just saw Scotts thread above..
