Rear port of 200D

Can RX2 be routed through the rear port? If not, how about the front jack?

Buck,

All sound that comes out the front panel headphone jack, the rear panel speaker output, and the rear panel line out (on the DB25) is identical at all times.

RX2 is available on those outputs, no fuss, no muss, assuming that you have RX2 AF turned up ;)

The only time RX2 audio becomes an issue is if you are using VAC. VAC1 only carries RX1 audio. VAC2 only carries RX2 audio.

Thanks for the prompt reply. One more (equally simple, I hope) question. Does the software, at any point on the audio chain whether to jack or VAC, make use of the host PC's sound card, or only the ADC/DAC converters within the Anan?

I'm working on some block diagrams for this, but they are not ready yet. However, in more simplistic form, here are the audio paths for receive.

This is the path when you use the audio connections on the radio:

Antenna --> RF ADC --> FPGA --> Ethernet --> PowerSDR on your PC --> Ethernet --> FPGA --> Audio DAC --> Speaker/Headphones/Line Out

This is the path when you use VAC and an audio interface on the PC:

Antenna --> RF ADC --> FPGA --> Ethernet --> PowerSDR on your PC --> PC Sound Card DAC --> Speaker/Headphones/Etc.

However, again, remember that the VAC interface is a bit funny as it was originally designed primarily for digital mode operations, which is why VAC1 carries RX1 ONLY and VAC2 carries RX2 ONLY. It's only been relatively recently that people have started to use VAC and the PC for "normal" op's. What we really need is a "VAC0" that duplicates the audio stream sent to the radio (keeping VAC1 and VAC2 for digi op's).

Read my tutorial for more detail on how to use the VAC interface.

I wish we didn't have to call it VAC anymore.

Every time I see "VAC" I have to stop and think - does the writer mean VAC1/VAC2 in PowerSDR, or does he mean the Virtual Audio Cable program from Muzychenko? Sometimes it's hard to tell from context which one the writer is referring to.

Probably too late to change now though. :-(
