An old friend of mine bought an ANAN-100 back in 2014 right around when I bought mine. It has worked well for him directly connected to a second NIC on his computer (just a straight shot with an ethernet cable) on a separate subnet using the same 192.168.5.x static IP setup that I use. After 3 years of reliable operation, he found that PowerSDR mRX PS would no longer connect to the ANAN and noted that both LED's on the ethernet port of the ANAN were no longer lit. The two front panel LED's on the left side of the ANAN look normal with the left one lit up solidly and the one next to it showing the usual FPGA heartbeat.
When he pings the ANAN's IP address of 192.168.5.2 the request times out. He tried HPSDRProgrammer v2.0.10 and found that it would not discover the Hermes board. He then installed HPSDRBootloader v2.0.4.4 plus WinPCAP and then jumpered J-12. He found that HPSDRBootloader could not discover the ANAN either.
So... he has another ANAN-100 (Rev 24) and he slid that one into the operating spot and it connected fine, which seems to indicate that the network setup is working correctly but his first ANAN is not.
At this point, he and I are stumped. Does this sound like a bad solder connection at the ethernet port or failed PHY chip on the Hermes board or does this look like a job for a JTAG programmer? Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Rob W1AEX

Re: ANAN 100 with dead ethernet port
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I believe I have the same issue, Also on an Anan 100. Thanks. W9SIX
Re: ANAN 100 with dead ethernet port
Sounds like a hardware failure to me, both cases.
Re: ANAN 100 with dead ethernet port
The only difference in my case is the left ethernet led blinks, but the right one never does. Basically sending info, but none returned. Is it worth sending for service or do I list it on here for parts? I didn't see any service info in the forum here. Where would I even send it? Thanks again for the info. W9SIX
Re: ANAN 100 with dead ethernet port
There is a slight possibility that it could be anti-virus or firewall software blocking the port on the PC. There are a few recent reports of Windows Defender doing this. You might try disabling all anti-virus and firewall features temporarily.
Re: ANAN 100 with dead ethernet port
I appreciate the reply. Yep, already tried that too and no joy. Have tried 3 different computers, all direct and also through 2 different routers, HPSDR Programmer and also bootloader with jumper on J12 on all 3 computers, swapped cables, pulled out hair, tried again, etc. All I get is "set jumper on J1 for metis" and an instant timeout. Again, your input is greatly appreciated though. Matt
Re: ANAN 100 with dead ethernet port
Hi there,
I had a similar problem with my Orion MKII card, the Micrel ksz9021rl ethernet controller was broken.
Excessive heat exposure over a long period of time is suspected.
There was a broken TX channel on my board, but it still worked when it was extremely cooling.
After the replacement, I installed heat sinks.
best regards René

Yes, this problem was resolved by Doug W5WC who as I recall found that the ethernet PHY chip had failed. Doug got my friend's ANAN-100 back to him very quickly and it has been running fine since then.

Thanks again everyone for the insight. W9SIX
Re: ANAN 100 with dead ethernet port
Update: My Anan 100 was sent to Doug W5WC who replaced the ethernet chip. My oldest son picked it up here the day it came back and had the radio connected immediately. He is just now discovering why I've been raving about these radio's and I think his 7300 will be mothballed for a while. Big thanks to everyone on the forum, everyone who sounded off here to help, and of course Doug for the great work and helpful advice. W9SIX
