Thetis 2.0.3.6 dev_2 issues

Postby I2NOY » Mon Feb 05, 2024 10:59 am

After some check, I noted that the ATT on TX, set at 31 normally, reverts to 0 as soon as I enable PS-A but remains to 0 when I disable PS-A. I noted that sometimes the ANAN step attenuator is enabling on RX1 by itself. I am not able to reproduce perfectly the step attenuator issue but I was playing around PS-A and ATT on TX settings and it occurred 3-4 times.

Resetting the database solved both issues. :geek:

I am also having an issue where when the radio has been operating for some time, then I close Thetis and come back and operate later....I seem to have very low RX signal level even if I change bands. I must physically power off the radio to recover normal signal levels.

Power cycling the ANAN hardware to fix a problem indicates that the firmware went to a bad place and needed to be rebooted.

Dang, ok. That stinks because in all other aspects this EP4CE firmware has the best performance re transmit spectra, seq errors, etc etc. Thanks Scott.

One thing that does not seem to have been reported on is an issue with recording ones transmission and then playing back the result to check on transmitted audio etc. I have been doing tests on the various bands with SSB and found (to my inital horror) that playing back the recorded audio was severely distorted on some bands. Alot of testing later with and without using an external radio to record and store the audio I have concluded that for my setup (7000 mk II with a fast I5 and using the direct mic input with ferrite beads etc. thetis 2.0.3.6 and 2.0.0 firmware) if I use the screen width on X0.5 I get the distortion and if I use X1 I don't. The actual TX audio is fine ....just what the internal recording is doing. It seems strange but that is what I have found. Comments please.

I wonder if anyone else is seeing this. Using latest Dev2 and setting Rx antenna to either Antenna port 2 or 3 with Port 1 set as transmit, I can not get QSK to select when in CW mode. I only get Off and Semi. If I change the Rx port from port 2 or 3 and select EXT1, I can once again select QSK mode.

I tried resetting the dabase but see the same behavior.

Since I haven't seen anyone mention this yet I wonder if it is something I'm doing incorrectly.

Thanks,

Auto AGC level is setting too high

Postby RobB » Wed Apr 03, 2024 8:12 pm

Any one else noting the auto AGC level seems to track peaks in the noise floor rather than the base of the noise floor? This is with latest firmware loaded

Go check the auto AGC offsets, their behavior changed in the last update. You'll need to reset and find what works for you.

Still no joy even after a DB reset, also the only AGC offsets I could find relate to the waterfall not the spec scope.
Interestingly the noise floor threshold is fine. To me the logic should be AGC = slider for manual control but AGC=noise floor when in auto

2.10.3.6 (1/28/24) dev_2, correct?

There is no user adjustment for the red line. Warren, Richie and I proved that it is mathematically correct, regardless of how it may look to some. IMHO it is spot on. Indeed, Richie's algorithm for calculating it is incredibly elegant, working for nearly any set of band conditions from empty to crowded. And it is very complete mathematically, accounting for FFT bin size and a host of other factors. It's so good that at my urging Richie added the noise power spectral density (NPSD) and passband noise power (PBNP) measurements to the info line.

Even if you don't agree that it is correct it's still irrelevant. If you are not happy with where the green line is landing simply change the offset and time constant values as desired:

Remember that it only works with the spectral display in panafall mode.

Thanks for the screenshot Scott. AGC controls under the DSP tab. Who would have thunk it

There's a lot of setup screens, that's for sure!

Don't forget that you can almost always find the appropriate setup tab by right clicking on the control in question. This definitely works with AGC, give it a try!

The new "Finder" menu is also helpful. See what you get when you put in "AGC" as the search term.

I don’t know in which version the quadrature IQ output stopped working for VAC1. VAC2 is fine.

Return to “Thetis”
