Winkeyer USB

Postby AK1MD » Mon Nov 13, 2023 6:52 am

I spent hours today trying to connect the K1EL Winkeyer USB to N1MM on a Anan 7000DLE.
The peddle worked fine in the front using the CW Key, but not the Winkeyer.
So I connected the Winkeyer in the back to Dig in 1 and 2. First it looked as if everything worked well until I realized that no RF was coming out of the tuner. The radio would do what it was supposed to do and I would also hear what I tried to transmit, but no RF was coming out. I cheeked out the settings in Thetis and N1MM and all seemed okay. After communicating with Gary K9RX, he gave me the hint to look into the Winkeyer settings and install the WK3 Demo 4.2 program.
I downloaded the new driver for the Winkeyer, tested the box which worked as it should, but still no RF coming out to the tuner.
Went back to N1MM, changed the settings, see attachments, and it finally worked.
I am curious how others connect the Winkeyer USB box to the Anan using Thetis to interface with N1MM?
Thank you, Alex AK1MD

There's no need for the complexity of using a Winkeyer. You can make a couple of virtual serial connections directly between Thetis and N1MM and send CW from N1MM that way. See this topic from way back in 2021: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3975&p=17250

Alex, I'm still unclear if you've finally merged Winkeyer with N1MM and your ANAN 7000.

Although not strictly required, having a Winkeyer is important to many of us who value accurate CW timing when using third-party contest and logging software like N1MM. I don't operate without it. Attached is Steve Elliot's Winkey history and his explanation of the data offloading function.

Agreed on the WinKeyer and CW timing. I use one with Writelog/Anan-100/ACOM-1000.

Thak you all for the reply.
I remember seeing the link viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3975&p=17250, but I could not figure out the com 19-com18 pair. How and where was that linked?

Without Winkeyer, CW timing glitches often manifest when opening and closing Windows apps. Example: opening up a new web browser window while transmitting during a contest.

That port pair is not being used for N1MM. He must have had it defined for some other application.

Okay, but com 19 is in ptt control and for it to work it must be paired with something and ptt was my problem.
Do you think there is a potential problem with my setting?
I tried the only Anan setting over the weekend and the transmission was chopped at times. I transmitted at 30 words per minute. I tried two calls during OKOMDX and both times I was asked to repeat my reply several times. I will try later during MST to see if my solution works.

You need to check the "enable" box if you want it to work.

I think you misunderstood. The attachment was from vu2mb that you quoted. I was wondering, with what did he pair com 19 to enable ptt? I know you said he connected it with something else, however it seems this may be essential?

Dear Alex,

For some years I use the ANAN-7000 with Thetis, N1MM and the microHAM CW Keyer with good results in many contests.

Here are my settings:

Thetis: TCP/IP CAT Server (1 clients) Bind IP:Port 127.0.0.1.13013, Server Running

N1MM: Port TCP Radio Flex5000 RX2, IP Addr:Port 127.0.0.1.13013, 115200,N,8,1 DTR=Always Off, RTS=Always OFF, Tx=1

N1MM: COM7 CW, DTR=Always On, RTS=Always Off, PTT Delay=50, Winkey

N1MM Winkey PTT, 50 Lead Time, 20 Tail Time, 0 First Character, 0 Keying Compensation Extension, 1.00 Hang Time

I hope it helps.
