So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
For those of you who have downloaded and installed the 32 bit version of Thetis, why did you do so? It seems very unlikely that anyone is running on a 32 bit operating system. Why use the 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit version?
Re: So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
Hi Scott
As I allready wrote on this forum I use the 32 bit version because on my system the processor load is much less than with the 64 bit version.
The 64 bit requires 2 to 3 (three !) times more processor resource.
I have no explanation for this. Apparently no other Thetis user mentioned such a problem. (i7 -4770K @3.5 GHz; 16 Gb RAM, 0.5 Tb SSD. Win 10 pro 64 bit) (Thetis-64 v 2.8.11 MW0LGE 21k8)
So I stay on 32 bit version.

Phil,
It seems your operating system is corrupt. You should try to repair it by issuing the following commands from a command prompt with administrator privilege:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
then
sfc /scannow
If things are badly broken you may require more than one pass at this.

Re: So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
Hi Scott,
I had already done several cleaning and maintaining procedures (don't quite remember which they was). Anyway I did two sfcscan passes : the second was errorless. And guess : still no change.
Thetis x64 takes 16 to 21% processor load while Thetis x86 needs 7 to 10%. Settings are the same on both versions (FW, FFT size, Frame Rate, etc...)

Re: So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
@Phil FM5GB
do me a favour, on both x86 and x64 run the following tests
1) single RX, set the spectrum display mode to OFF instead of panafall or whatever you normally use
2) change the FPS to 1 in Settings->Display->General
3) power up so you can hear signal
4) record cpu% details from Thetis status bar, Thetis only, and System, both sets of values
5) record the values again with VAC's off (if you had them on previously)

The DISM command as given must be run first. Did you do them in the order shown? Random approximations don't count.FM5GB wrote:I had already done several cleaning and maintaining procedures (don't quite remember which they was). That's how did the things

Re: So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
Since DISM and SFC report a state of health, Richie's experiment sounds important as way to perhaps point the finger at the video processing. I'm eager to read those results.

Hi Ritchie,
CPU % is 5 to 9 % (as taken from the Thetis Only figure) and 7 to 14 % for the whole system for Thetis x86
CPU % is 17 to 20 % and 19 to 24 % (same counters) for Thetis 64
Did'nt use VAC during these measurments and adjusted parameters as you said

Is the same database used by both 32/64-bit systems? Or are they compatible they could be copied?

Re: So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
I just did a comparison on my system between 32 and 64-bit with the same database. Not a noticeable difference.
I wonder if you have the same .Net for both 64 and 32-bit installed?
I am doing 48kHz sampling.
Here's my database.xml if you want to test with it

Re: So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
Just compared x86 and x64 versions:
They use nearly exactly the same processor time.
But there is a pitfall: If you have both instances started (but only one active at a time) the load display of the active one is false!
Here it shows 5% for real 20% measured with ProcessExplorer.
I think both are using the same timer...

Re: So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
@DL2XY yes, unfortunately the Performance counter is using the processname as the filter so not unique with multiple copies running. To get around that problem could try renaming the exe, for 2nd instance testing I guess.

Hi Richie,
I have done another test which I should have performed long before.
I have Installed both Thetis versions on my laptop (i5 @ 2.4 GHz) and I just compared them. I utilize VAC to bring audio
out and in the radio thru the network. All settings are the same in both versions. (FW 384000)
Thetis 2.8.11 x86 32 bit 5 % Thetis only computer load
Thetis 2.8.11 64 bit 14 to 16 % in same conditions.
And more weird when I power Thetis off processor load does not drop significantly (stays around 12 to 13 %) in 64 bit version while it drops to 2 % in 32 b version..
That makes me believe it's a hardware/firmware related issue on my specific Orion (Anan 200D) board. Another timing problem ?
Any comment ?

Re: So you downloaded the 32 bit version of Thetis: why???
I have followed and updated Thetis as soon as Richie has released. This thread has been interesting. I watch closely the voltage reading in the bottom left corner of the GUI. as far as the CPU load goes I don't. Since this trad started I have started watching the
CPU load. I use Thetis 64 bit version. I've noticed quite a difference between what the GUI indicates and Windows Task Manager.
The GUI normally indicates between 4 and 5%. Task Manager is indicating 14 to 15%. I don't know at what point the GUI indication began running so low. I saw no other posts with this issue so I am assuming mine may be an isolated occurrence. Has this been anyone else's experience? I am now curious if this will change when a full install of Thetis with all the improvements included.

Hi,
Here on my setup, the cpu usage in the Thetis statusbar is identically to the cpu usage value of Thetis.exe in the task manager.

I share the same experience as Ruben.
Compared V2.8.11 vs. 21k9 (both on equal settings, so far possible) on Win11
V2.8.11, SDR powered off, shows 1%, Taskmgr. 2,1%. SDR powered on, Thetis shows 4-9%, Taskmgr. 10-13%
21k9, SDR powered off, shows 5%, Taskmgr. 7%. SDR powered on, Thetis shows 8-12%, Taskmgr. 12-16%

Thetis Only cpu% on the status bar will mirror that of Thetis.exe in the Details tab of taskmanager.

I'll refresh my database and see if that improves anything. If everything else keeps working as wonderfully as it does the cpu%
on the status bar can do what it wants to do. I mentioned it because I thought it was a strange anomaly. It is probably something I'm doing incorrectly. It usually is.
Richie, I say again thank you so much for all you have done for this community. Thetis has really become a true gem.
