ANF settings

Postby WA3O » Fri Oct 08, 2021 2:31 pm

Hello group,

I was wondering if anyone can explain to me how to go about adjusting the ANF setting in the latest version of Thetis 2.8.1121K6? I am finding that the ANF doesn't seem to react fast enough and is maybe not as effective as the one on my 7300.

I did a search on the forum to no avail.

Thank you.

Mike,

Do you mean ANF? If so, you might want to edit your post to make that correction.

I don't own a 7300, but the ANF in Thetis works exactly the same as in previous versions of Thetis and PowerSDR going back as far as I can remember, even to when I had a Flex 3000. At least that's my admittedly subjective perception.

That said, there are adjustments that can be made in Setup > DSP > NR/ANF, however I've never tried to change any of them.

Scott,

Yes sorry...corrected now. When someone tunes on frequency, it doesn't get completely notched most times. Can you explain what each setting does? Taps...Delay, Gain and Leak?

Thank you.

I can't explain them precisely, myself. But pages 47 and 48 of the WDSP Guide may provide some insight:

I never listened to ANF with a very critical ear. To me it always worked fine. This morning I sought out carriers on the band and did listen with a very critical ear. No noise reduction of any other type turned on, just ANF. In every case it completely eliminated the carrier. I played with some of the settings and still could not get it to do anything but completely eliminate the carrier.

The only possibly negative thing I noticed about it is that it does take 2 or 3 seconds before the carrier is completely eliminated. By shortening the delay and lowering the leak value I thought that I was able to speed that up a little, but that's a very subjective observation.

Scott,

Yes 2 -3 seconds of piercing tone when you have head phones on is a little annoying. I will play with the settings and see if I can speed that up.

Thanks.
