Just as a heads up because I am sure it will be raised at some point. I will be be adding an option that will prevent a slot from being updated, if the current spot frequency etc you are leaving is already in the stack somewhere.

there was a quick update to d6, the latest is now 21d6b. A fix for 6m not having the 6m offset removed. Thanks to Todd who reported it.

21d6b
"fix: cat/midi band up/down control & collapsed mode band control should now have returned"

Fixed! It's working again. Thanks, Richie!

Hi, some band-border issues. Maybe these where already there but i just noticed them today.

- i tried to add 198 kHz (BBC) into the LW/MW bandstack but everything below 200 kHz jumps wrongly to the 160m band.
LW = 148.5 - 283.5 kHz

- every frequency between 4 Mhz (end of 80m) and 5.1Mhz is wrongly seen as 61m BC band
61m band (60m) = 4.750 - 5.060 kHz

- 60m amateur band is skipped when vfo tuning (band button doesn't lit up)

There's possibly more. I think these borders are hardcoded in the software but it would be better if users can adjust them in the future. Also to adjust them to there own region. (I.e. overhere 80m stops at 3.8 khz not 4 kHz).

Hi, I checked yesterday d4 and attenuators (0, -10, -20 and -30 dB) act differently on S-meter, FFT and waterfall, from RX1 and RX2.
This afternoon I will try with 21D6b

Hey Leon,

Below are the entries that the Netherlands will be using. It will eventually all be moving to an xml file, or overridden by one.

EDIT: it looks like 0.198 will get put into 160m band if using extended. That is the way it worked previously. Perhaps not what should happen ;)

and as a follow up, this is when the extended option is turned on in settings. Note, that when fitting a frequency to band it runs down these lists from top to bottom, and takes the first that fits. It used to be a massive If/else statement, some 6500 lines !!!!! It was impossible to change/administer anything in there.

yeah just ignore anything but the latest. All that was stripped out until I get a moment to re-work through.

Richie,

Running 21d6b on a 7000DLE black case, Protocol 2, Windows 10

When I'm running dual receivers (VFO's synced) the RX2 Display Settings screen doesn't correlate to the band I'm operating in. The pic below was taken while I was operating on 80 meters but the band referenced in the RX2 Display Settings screen is "General" (BCAM). Changing bands in the session doesn't change the band referenced in the RX2 Display Settings screen.

Thanks,
Mark

I had noticed the same thing here last night, but didn't bother to report it as I had not regressed to earlier versions to see when it changed. But had not caused any issues yet, or wasn't yet convinced it was an issue.

I loaded 21d6b but I do not see the small "b" in the header.
Did I really not load it ?

Many thanks for your time and reply Richie.
I see what you mean, i have Extended off now: everything < 200 kHz is within the bandstack part "GEN" but there's not a GEN band button to lit up.

A change in the future seems logical, seperate bandstacks & bandbuttons for LW and MW with there correct boundaries but this doesn't have prio for now so i'll set a reminder for this under "wishes". r/Leon

yeah it is moving towards that slowly. I am planning on making a new band grid, that can be setup with your own filters, defaulted to some norm of course. Lack of time this week, but should be fine next week to spend some decent time on things.

I have just been reworking the code that decides on band as it had some things I didn't like too much that I had to do last week sometime to get around an issue. Also, the display on the RX1/RX2 in setup to show what band grid data is being used has been reworked.

I noticed yesterday:
Selecting "SWL" and then "41m"...tuning to a AM-station @7250khz.. the band-selector changes back to "HF"...So its not possible to add this AM-station in the 41m shortwave band to the "SWL 41m" bandstack... the entry is added to the "40m HF" stack.
Both is "correct". 7250 is in the region 2 40m-band and in the 41m shortwave band.

Not a big deal.. just to have mentioned it.

yes Ernst. Not sure what to do about this yet, as it is like that in old Thetis. I just started 2_8_11 base, and tested Sweden as I had seen that there were overlaps. Sure enough, clicking on the SWL 49m takes me through to 60m HF.

Something has to give way if a frequency is in two bands. As frequency changes the code is run to determine current band based off that frequency. It takes the top one off a list of possible bands, the list is ordered to give ham bands priority. If the band changes, so does the filter/stack window.

Could you let me know what region is configured & if you are using extended option.

Edit: of course, preventing any overlap in the band extents would solve it....but....

Cheers,

Richie.

Yes, a difficult situation. I have selected Region 1 with extended ticked.
Maybe an additional flag in your bandstack-table? If user selects "SWL", this could be stored in a variable (and cleared after the user selects another area (HF, VHF,...) ... like a additional filter in your table.

Actually a correction there...

They work through like this, the first band that is an ok match is used.

Any country with Extended checked on
lmf range
wwv spot freqs
swl ranges
ham ranges

US
ham ranges
wwv spots freqs
lmf range
swl ranges

All other countries (including region 1/2/3 setting)
ham ranges
wwv spot freqs
lmf range
swl ranges

This order defines everything that happens inside Thetis in terms of band selection. It is how it used to be in over 6500 lines of if statements.

Yep, extended is a total over-ride, it builds a new list that is in the order above. Incredibly, looking at it, I think if you run R1/2/3 without extended bad things will happen, in that no band edges are defined for ham bands

In extended mode, if you notice the lists are used in a different order. The extended 41m low cut is defined 7.3mhz however, so it would have missed your 7.250 station. Perhaps it should be moved? The SWL's are 'hit' test first in extended mode, and then a 40m ham entry wraps from 7meg to 8.7. Extended is like a country in its own right, it doesn't extend other countries.

A good question... but who knows the sideeffects, if the low cut is moved to 7.2.... really tricky
For me its not a big deal, I am not really a big swl listener, just noticed it accidental :-)

I noticed that I can clear the issue by just disabling/enabling VAC1. This worked 100% so far.. fyi ;-)

I have put up all the band related stuff on a sheet for now. Perhaps a look at that lot to see what needs changing/swapping. Also keep in mind that this is the same way that old band decision was made, but instead 6000+ lines of If/Else.

https://bit.ly/3BwESZ1

Remember, Thetits works down the list for each region, and will return the band that first surrounds the frequency in question.

The phase margin of the FLL control loop is supercritical, depending on buffersize and samplerate setting.
I had to adjust the proportional gain and slew rate in source.

The patch below give me stable conditions for my setting (48ksmp,10ms,512bytes).
This involves a slightly higher settling time (about 1 to 2 Min) but is perfect stable after one 10% overshoot.

For a perfect solution these values would have to be calculated at runtime according to setting.

Just some Bugs:

Thetis v2.8.11 21d6b,ANAN100, WIN7 X64
  • PSform Button Advance: Black Text on black background.
  • Setupform/Display/RX2: Band indication is fixed on random Band.
Settings are applied global to all bands.
  • Console:
Command line option "-datapath:" is broken. If used target path is ignored but "C:\" is used instead.
This leads to database corruption if multiple instances are installed.

Return to “Thetis”
