Thetis-killing printer/scanner software

Postby N7CXI » Sun Mar 07, 2021 1:54 am

A word of warning about Canan MX-series (specifically MX-922) printer-scanner-fax machines.

Be warned that the scanner host software (that runs on a Windows PC) spews UDP packets like crazy, interfering with Thetis and/or any other UDP streaming audio or video app you may use. It's like a broadcast storm in a box!

I finally got around to running WireShark on my (very busy) home network and there it was. Over time I had figured out that this particular machine was a problem, but I didn't know why. I had given the MX-922 to my son some time ago, but had forgotten to un-install all the bloat... (pardon me) software required to use it on a network. (The Plumber's Affliction)

If you happen have Thetis network issues, a WireShark session can be quite illuminating. I'm still seeing SEQ errors once in a while, but not often enough to spend the effort on VLANs or putting the 7000DLEMKII back on a separate wire.
