Your Setup/DSP/Options settings?

Postby DH1KLM » Tue Jan 26, 2021 4:06 pm

Just out of curiosity. What are your optimal/prefered DSP settings for /Options -/AGC/ALC -/NR/ANF ?

These are mine. The BH-7 filter window shape provides more stop band suppression at the expense of filter skirt slope but increasing the filter size to 4096 restores the skirt slope. And since the there is no latency penalty at any filter size (length) when using the low latency filter type that works out well. There is little benefit in steeper skirts from longer filters, even the lowest settings provide steeper skirts than any other radio on the market with the possible exception of Flex.

Meanwhile everything seems to work just fine with the lowest buffer size. I've never messed with FM, however.

Thanks,
your settings are not different to mine, except the filtersize. I adapt these to yours.

Sometimes my receive audio sounds a little harsh. Are there any settings which affect this?

I find that a filter size of 8192 sounds very harsh when both stations are running RX/TX BW in the 3-4KHz range, and there are still some artifacts at 4096. But at 2048 it is very smooth. YMMV.

Some people are very sensitive to the impulse response (ringing) when filter skirts are really steep. If you are one of those people just select the minimum filter length (1024) and be done with it.

I know this is kind of subjective, but for me the minimum phase filters sound slightly harsh. But the linear phase filters sound like "butter" :-) The good news is that, for lower filter size settings (e.g. 2048), there is very little latency penalty for using linear phase.
