Dear all , I have used Thetis 2.6.8 for a while without any problems
Tried a week the new 2.8.11 version (64 bits) . It loads faster but has the following issues of concern
- using exactlky the same settings on all the menu pages as what I had with 2-6-8
- S meter when calibrated on 10 MHz for S9 , will never go down to S 0 even with dummy load ( stays at S2)
- Modulation is not as deep , meaning you need to set the powerquite a lot higher in PA settings than with version 2.6.8 for similar or lesser results ( talk power is diminished )
The result is that when I could use my linear witn 1KW PEPE on SSB , now with the same settings as ver 2.6.8 , I only get 650 Watts .
And the audio chain adjustments are unstable one day you can reach 1 KW , the next day you only reach 800 , etc.. .
Because of this inconvenience I will revert to 2.6.8 for the time but I would appreciate a fix or an explanation.
Any thing to do with calibration and 64 bit version ?
Should I try the 32 bit version ?
Anyway thanks , it is nice to have updates from time to time
Best 73 & regards

Thetis 2.8.11 ( 64 bit ) Power and signal level issues
Re: Thetis 2.8.11 ( 64 bit ) Power and signal level issues
Did you start with a fresh database?
Re: Thetis 2.8.11 ( 64 bit ) Power and signal level issues
Dear Scott
My prev Message : 2.68 should be replaced by 2.6.9 sorry abt that
The fiste time I downloaded 2.8.11 64 bit I tried to upload my prev database from 2.6.9 into it but the Thetis worked without any waterfall / So I decided to redo the download and start with fresh database and I copied all my settings to the blank database including the tX profile
And that is when I noticed the lower modulation issue and the S-unit calibration issue because I got different results when transmitting from one version to the other even though the settings were teh same ( including the PA settings page).

Re: Thetis 2.8.11 ( 64 bit ) Power and signal level issues
Have you recently upgraded to Windows 10 version 20H2?
I've made the upgrade a couple of days ago and I noticed also lower audio gains in my SoundBlaster card.

Re: Thetis 2.8.11 ( 64 bit ) Power and signal level issues
Hi Jordi
Thanks for your advice!
Will check tonight about the version of WIN 10 , but my comparison is on the same computer , same version of windows , same day when I run one version ( 2.6.9) I get better sound ( deeeper , more efficient modulation ) than with the new version 2.8.11 64bit .
It looks like the same level of sound in the audio chain results in less modulation of the carrier wave , as if the modulation mixer was set to modulate less than 100% .
To me this beahviour is mysterious , I suspect maybe the change from 32 bitto 64 bit or some changes made to Puresignal ....
Let's wait for What Scott will tell us.

Re: Thetis 2.8.11 ( 64 bit ) Power and signal level issues
I cannot duplicate your results. My transition from 2.7.0 to 2.8.11 was seamless. I experience consistent performance day to day, and no difference between 32 and 64 bit versions. I also note that others are not reporting the same problems.
Have you done a PA drive calibration?
Have you done an S-meter calibration (this requires an external signal generator)?
Are you using VAC? If so, have you carefully groomed all of your audio settings throughout Windows and whatever audio applications you use?

Scott

Re: Thetis 2.8.11 ( 64 bit ) Power and signal level issues
I agree with Scott's comments Pierre. My move from v2.7.0_a3 to the 2.8.11 version went very smoothly. I did start with a fresh database provided by v2.8.11 but I had no problem exporting all my TX profiles from v2.7.0_a3 and then importing them directly into v2.8.11 32-bit and 64-bit. I use VAC to bring my TX audio into Thetis and there were no issues with any levels at all. Did you re-calibrate your PA gain levels? If you have not then that would most likely explain the RF output differences since the default values by band will not provide optimal levels for every piece of hardware.

Re: Thetis 2.8.11 ( 64 bit ) Power and signal level issues
Hi Scott , I copied all settings from the old version including the PA settings . I had not recalibrated the S-Meter . Will again download the 2.8.11 64 bit and start from fresh , will work on all this in the coming few days and check everything again to be sure .
Best regards and thanks for the advice that all is well on your side . .
