VAC doesn't show me a WASAPI option

Postby K1LSB » Wed Jun 24, 2020 11:11 pm

For mic audio I'm using a Behringer mic preamp connected to the computer thru USB and feeding that into VAC1 in Thetis 2.7.0. I'm pretty sure my computer (Win10 i7-6700K) has WASAPI capability because I can see (and use) that option in Audacity, but WASAPI isn't offered as an option in the VAC1 Driver pulldown list in Thetis.

Thetis only shows me the following options:

1) MME
2) Windows DirectSound
3) Windows WDM-KS [whatever that is]
4) HPSDR (USB/UDP) [never heard of that either]

Why doesn't it offer WASAPI?

TIA,
Mark

Hi Mark,

WASAPI is trapped out in the code and not shown in the VAC1 ComboBox on purpose because the latency is so bad (~30ms) in shared mode. PortAudio doesn't work correctly with WASAPI in exclusive mode (which is very fast, but badly distorted). The PortAudio guys are currently trying to address this, so we'll have to wait and see what they come up with.

Your Behringer should show it's ASIO driver in the VAC1 ComboBox, but you didn't mention that in your post??? ASIO is your best bet for sure.

Hi Bryan,

The preamp I'm using is a Tube Ultragain MIC500USB, that model isn't ASIO compatible. The main reasons I bought it are 1) it was cheap, and 2) it offered 48V phantom power for my condenser mic.
