So, I'm looking into getting a new monitor and upgrade from my 1080p 60hz monitors to either a 1080p or 1440p 144hz monitor. How much of an improvement do you think I would see with a 1440p monitor as opposed to a 1080p 144hz monitor? My GPU, GTX 1050 ti, should handle 144fps at 1440p however, if not and say I can only do 125fps @1440p, would 1080p @ 144 fps be much better than 1440p @ 125fps or would it not make any difference at all? And I'm wondering how much more of an improvement a higher framerates than 60fps would make because at this point, the panadapter data line seems about as "smooth " as it can get. But I never had a 1440p monitor or a 144hz monitor. So maybe someone who has a monitor capable of over 60fps can shed some light as well as anyone else who has experimented with the higher framerates.
Thanks

I don't know Perry. Lots of people will say what is the point going beyond 30fps because of the misconception the eye only see around 30fps. Well, colour changes are discernible at around 60fps and brightness changes around 100fps, something like that anyway. To me there is a massive difference in 'fluidity' of the panadaptor at 60 compared to 30. How much difference would there between 144 and 60 would be down to each person I guess, and there may be diminishing returns?
Honestly, I would not invest in one just for Thetis, and at those frame rates, doing anything above 1080p starts to get seriously expensive in terms of GPU requirements and monitor price.
I could be fun though

I totally agree with the "fluidity " statement. I see a huge difference between 30fps and 60fps. Its night and day. Anyway, I'm just trying to figure out which would be the better upgrade, more FPS, 1080p @144fps or more resolution 1440p @ 60fps... hmmmmmmmmmm

Hopefully you can get a good deal close to Black Friday whatever you choose.

Another thing I just thought about is since I keep my pan adapter averaging time at 50 milliseconds, that means th frame rate of my panadapter is 20hz, going off of why Scott suggested the waterfall update time at 16ms because the framerate of 3.4.9 is 60fps. What I'm getting at is if I had my panadapter time set faster, having a faster monitor would be beneficial and I would see a difference, but since I don't, I should max out at a certain FPS. I dunno if I'm making sense but it sounds plausible lol

What are you using for a monitor Tony?

And yes thags the plan. I found a 1440k 144hz monitor with great reviews on amazon for $240. I'm really leaning toward a 2k monitor because even if I cant hold 144fps, I don't think I'm gonna see much, If any, improvement past 60fps on a 1080p monitor, on which I know I can hold 144fps with my video card. And plus I'd rather have a more crisp, colorful display anyway. And 60fps looks amazing now with directx and anti-aliasing
