Fatal Error

Postby JG7PSJ » Thu Mar 22, 2018 12:13 pm

Hello all,

I got a 200d, so I installed the PowerSDR, but the PowerSDR does not start up with the following error message.

How should I solve it?
Using OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1.

Thanks

Is this the very first time that PowerSDR has been installed on that PC?

Did you get PowerSDR from this repository:

https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-PowerSDR/releases ?

Is your version of Windows 100% up to date per Windows Update?

Yes, this is the 1st time installing of PowerSDR for this PC.
And I downloaded file from that URL.
Windows update is 100% of course.

Unfortunately those were all the right answers. Therefore I'm running out of ideas.

Perhaps your anti-virus software is interfering somehow? Perhaps a video driver needs to be updated?

I am seeing the same fatal error on my 200D with both version 8 and 9. My 200D runs older versions without problems. I am running Windows 10 Home with all updates and I downloaded the new version from GitHub. Any ideas?

Solved. :D
My case was that the UAC level was too high.

I am still seeing the fatal error listed by JG7PSJ when trying to upgrade to either V3.4.8 or v3.4.9. I am running Orion v 5.0 firmware on my 200D. I have tried all of the possible levels of UAC with no difference. Version v3.4.7 and below work just fine. I think this may be a Video card issue and I am running A Gigabyte Geforce GTX-1050ti with no other problems. This error happens as soon as the program starts its learning sequence. I am wondering if anyone other than JG7PSJ and I are seeing this Fatal error. I have removed all of the residual program information between trying various fixes and still no joy.

Hi Jerry,

Just a random thought, because I really have no idea what is causing this: did you try running both the intaller, and PowerSDR as administrator? If not it might be worth a try.

Hi Scott, just an update on my problem installing v8 and v9. I tried several more things including running everything as administrator without success. I had about given up but I thought that my problem was connected to video somehow as the program install never even started before the fatal error was reported. I went to the Settings menu in Windows 10 and under size and layout you can adjust the size of text and apps and other items in steps of 100%, 125%, 150%, and 175%. I had set mine to 175% for a larger text size and Icons. I reset to 100% and everything now works. It is not a big deal but I believe it is a bug as all other version up through v7 worked just fine with the 175% setting. Thanks for your suggestions and the huge amount of time and effort you put into supporting us dummies. 73 Jerry W5RCQ

Did you try the fix that worked for W5RCQ above?
