Hello,
Is it possible to receive notifications by e-mail, or push e-mail, in case there are (important) new topics on this forum, like major software or hardware updates?
TNX and 73, Hans PA0Q.

Re: Notification by e-mail
Hans,
The short answer is "sort of". Forum/BBS developers seem to have taken a philosophical standpoint that forums should be primarily a "pull" environment as opposed to a "push" environment. There are a great many reasons for this which probably don't need to be discussed in answering your question. However the end result is that the email notification features of most forums are somewhat limited.
With the forum software in use here, you can register to be notified of new postings on a forum-by-forum basis:
- This must be done individually for each forum or sub-forum you are interested in.
- Notifications will only tell you that there is a new post, not what that post is about, nor will it contain the content of the post. This makes it of limited usefulness.
To get these notifications you click the "Subscribe" button at the top of each forum/sub-forum you are interested in.
IMHO, a better way is to occasionally check the "Active Topics" link, which is a compendium of all recent activity on the forum. Create a bookmark in your browser, or a shortcut on your desktop, and take a peek once in a while. If you are like many people who use the internet as their source of news and information, you can do this as part of your normal, daily, on-line news reading.
The direct link to the active topics page is: https://apache-labs.com/community/search.php?search_id=active_topics
You can also reach the Active Topics page from the "hamburger" menu at the top left of every forum page.
73,
Scott

Re: Notification by e-mail
BTW, this is a frequently asked question, making this post a "sticky".
Re: Notification by e-mail
Thanks Scott!
I could not find this info on the forum. I started with the Search option: 'Notification' and 'Push e-mail'.
