Wait begins....

Postby kknickelson » Wed Mar 17, 2021 2:37 pm

Well I have my 7000 MKII on order but have a couple of months to wait,
So...
I have all this coming this weekend.
That will take care of 1 day.....lol
My current PC is a few years old.
This looks a little better.
Hope it's enough for the 7000?

Hi Kevin, I know you posted this a while ago, but let us know when you get your radio. I just ordered a 7000DLE MKII last night, so I won't get mine for a while. That PC build looks really nice, how did it go?

I also build all of my PCs and the rig I'll be using for my ANAN is an i7-10700 on an Asus H470 motherboard, 32GB RAM and an M.2 SSD drive.

That's plenty of machine to make a good radio.

However, Thetis loves cores. I'm currently on an i7-7700k 4-core CPU. When I build my next PC it will definitely be an 8-core machine. It typically see about 13% CPU for Thetis by itself. Folks running 8-core machines typically report half that. So you should be right in the middle ;)

Scott,

I've noticed you make that statement elsewhere (Thetis likes cores). I also have plans to upgrade in about a year so here's my question:

Strictly from a Thetis standpoint, is hyperthreading per se any great advantage? In other words, would 8 physical cores hyperthreaded (16 virtual cores) make Thetis a great deal happier than 8 physical cores non-hyperthreaded?

TIA,
Mark

Mark,

I honestly don't know. I'm pretty sure most everyone is running with hyperthreading on, as I am, so I don't know that anyone's done that comparison. All I know is that the folks with more cores report lower CPU utilization, and I'm making the assumption that that is a good thing.

Thanks Scott, I guess that was a moot question in retrospect because I just checked and learned that all of the new (11th gen) Intel i3, i5 and i7 are hyperthreaded anyway (I didn't bother checking the i9 but I'd be gobsmacked to find out that any of those aren't also hyperthreaded). :)

I have 2 PCs for Thetis in different locations:

Ryzen 5 3600, 6+6 cores
Ryzen 7 3700x 8+8 cores

Really there isn't much difference bentween them...

The Ryzen 5 3600 is capable of running Thetis between 4 and 7% CPU utilization, so you will be fine with a 6+6 processor.

If you buy a new 6+6 cores series 5xxx Ryzen it will be plenty of CPU power.

My build was uneventful and went well.
I also added a 35" curved monitor.
Everything runs awesome and I have a very fast network.. business class.

Now when the 7000 is delivered will be ready.
I just passed week 11 and hope to hear from Apache Labs in the near future.
Currently using a Flex 6400 and can't wait to compare the two.
