Custom wheels for Hercules DJ Control

Postby DL8LAQ » Sat Feb 15, 2020 2:18 pm

Hi,

once I saw somewhere custom wheels for the DJ Control. On my control the rubber surface of the big wheels is getting sticky. Does anyone know where I can find these custom wheels made of steel or aluminium (not aluminum :-)?

Hello Norbert,

I was going to submit a new post but this might save some room. I have the DJ Control MP3 e2 controller and would like to remove the facia so that a custom vinyl print can be applied and then reassemble. I think the facia will come over the bottons and the sliders and knobs are easily removed, the VFO wheels however im not sure how they come off do you know or anyone on here please share ?

Thanks
Paul

Hello Paul,
Unfortunately, the VFO wheels cannot be pulled off from above.
To dismantle the large wheels, you need to remove all screws from the back, then carefully separate the case halves from each other. Now you can see the back of the PCB.
There you will see a so-called C-clip. Remove this C-clip with a screwdriver, now the wheel can be pulled out upwards.
On this occasion, the shaft can be lubricated with graphite, for example.
It would also be possible to weigh down the inside of the housing with a small iron plate in order to give the deck more weight and thus increase the stability.
Incidentally, the C-clip can be easily reassembled with a pair of pliers.

Norbert: I can only suggest covering or replacing the rubber inlay as a quick solution. I will see what is involved when I get mine apart, maybe a 3d printed turnwheel with a grooved bolt could be a long term fix for you.

Sigi: Thanks a lot for the great pics and I'm so happy to know how to(this forum is ace). Looking at the wheel I presume those spokes are triggers for the VFO wheel to count ?

Scott: You bet. I will post my files back here when complete along with the parts im printing to stand the midi up for operating convenience.

Cheers

Updated 4/3/22

For those of us using this older controller I wanted to share the vector file and image for anyone wanting to do their own version. Both files are to scale 1:1

Im having the vinyl printed next and will post back the final results shortly.
