Angelia (ANAN-100D) Protocol 2 test pilots: please check in

Postby w-u-2-o » Wed Apr 17, 2019 11:59 am

The P2 firmware for the 200D and newer radios seems to be shaping up in to a stable beta very nicely (thank you Rick N1GP!!!) Now we need to put a closer focus on the next oldest hardware, the Angelia card in the ANAN-100D.

Please let us know what firmware versions work, 11.7, 11.8 or 11.9, what versions don't work, or if none of them work for you.

This information will be critical to the development of a production version that does work for the Angelia.

Thanks & 73,

Scott

Anan 100D ,SW ver. 2.6.4 ,FW ver.11.7 works . Rx,Tx, and PS work great.

FW ver .11.8 failed , When power button pushed 100D would start but no Rx,Tx,display. Many LAN dropouts .
FW ver 11.9. Rx, Tx work , PS inop. PS erratic ,will not correct. No LAN dropouts.

Hey Folks,

I've made a couple of Angelia (100D) FW images to try with various timing changes.

Please give them a try and let me know here which if either work best for you.
Best to load them with the Bootloader.

I have an early 100D (2014) only mod is the improved 10MHz TCXO.

Have been running Thetis with Ver 11.7 f/w for some months. Just installed Ver 11.9 f/w and Thetis Ver 2.6.4. All OK except:

1) Frequent short RX audio dropouts accompanied a a short (error?) message in the middle of the line below the display. The message are in the format "Seq =>nn" The nn number changes, the most recent one I have seen is 32.

2) The new QSK button on the CW sub menu is greyed out. So far no TX testting except for using the TUN buttom - which triggers a tune up carrier as expected.

Will be happy to answer any questions..

Intel 980x, 6 core ,12 threads, Nvida Cuda.
Anan 100D feeding a EB-104 300wt amp @ 50vts.
power output @ 160 watts.

Interesting !

Both work with PS.

What is interesting is that the IMD of ver 12/5270.rbf ....PS is much better on the 5th , 7th , 9th and up.

Ver 12/4070.rbf works also , but the IMD with PS on the 5th , 7th , 9th is not as good as ver 12/5270.

The IMD on the 3rd with both is abt the same.

Having said that , there are some harmonics within the passband with 5270 @ a 2T of 700/1900hz.

In any event , you have solved the PS problem in a timely manner.

Thank you very much for your effort's.

I have tried both versions, with none of them I was able to receive or transmit. Only noise as if no antenna is connected.
Went back to Angelia_Protocol_2_v11.7_7-15-18.rbf and all works fine again.
This time I could use the Programmer instead of the Bootloader.

Both Brian and Gary have been successful with

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zin81513mjunf ... 0.rbf?dl=0

@ZL2XG: it would be really good to know if that same version runs on your Angelia.

BREAK

@dl2hbj, Jan, what programmer are you referring to? The P2 programmer?

Thanks,

Scott, I used the P2 programmer.
I checked the Angelia_Protocol_2_v12.0_pre1_5270 again, which again doesn't work.
Would it be helpful if I made my database available?

Hi Scott,

I tried e Angelia_Protocol_2_v12.0_pre1_5270 and it proved highly unstable.

The second ver 12 refused to load properly.

So, back to Ver 11.9 for the moment.

Jan,

If you haven't tried it already, I recommend reloading with the bootloader just to see if that makes a difference. The P2 programmer is not 100% reliable with the firmware we've got right now, i.e. when the firmware is struggling to make timing part of that struggle may affect P2 programmer.

Chris,

Thanks for the report!

I believe I found the issue causing the antenna switching not to work.

Also I made some timing adjustments. If you can please try both of these and let me know
which works better.

Tnx for the detailed results of your tests guys.

It feels like we're converging on something that works within a variety of hardware.

I'm not sure why it seems harder to bring the Angelia in to a general consensus of
working well with P2 like the Orions. There's always variables such as the fact it's
running the net HW at a Ghz rate stressing current sensitive fuses which are rated differently
than the Orion. Also the quality of the supporting network infrastructure for certain users
may have something in play. We have only a few Angelia (100D) users reporting so far.

Still zeroing in on a good timing that fits all.

Guys,

Please try this out and report back, if you would. Working OK here on my Angelia: no Seq errors, solid PS, solid RX2, solid diversity.

The major difference with this one is that it should hold its timing over a wider temperature range.

No audio dropouts.

The fuse issue on this Anan 100D motherbd is not an issue as yet.

I will try the other rev 2morrow

After a few more hours of Test & Measurement , I must say that both
PC2 pre2 5550.rbf / Thetis 2.6.7 are stable with my 100D SDR Project.
Optimizing the Resampler along with the aid of AmpView and the Rigol test equipment ,
I was able to tweak the bias on my amp for the best linearity and the least correction from APD (PureSignal).
Results was an IMD of -65 @ 67dBm output....outstanding outcome.
AmpView is a very powerful tool when running an analog amp (tube's) with adjustable bias an tuning.
ADP (PureSignal) now is the best than it's ever been !
AmpView results have been good in the past , but this results is over the top !
I've moved off ProTools to exercise the Audio Suite in Thetis , running just a standard profile , the audio reports
have been very positive.
Xmit EQ, VOX/DE and CFC work great.

Tnx guy's for a job well done..

lots of fun.

Hi Gary,

I wonder which way you adjusted your bias to improve the IMD? I found that by increasing the bias on the PA in my Anan some time ago the IMD without PS running improved from the -20's to the -30's. This also resulted in an improvement with PS running. If I recall correctly, I changed the bias from 2 amps to 2.5 amps.

I haven't tried this with my Amp yet. It runs dual LDMOS devices. Maybe I should give it a go. I typically see mid to high -50's with it on most bands now.

Hi Rick,

I finally broke down and loaded Protocol 2 into my 100D today. The released version 12 file was a mess. The 12.1_pre2 file kept me from rolling back to Protocol 1. And the 12.1_pre2_5550 convinced me to continue running Thetis.

With version 12 the noise floor was bouncing around and hovering around -60 on the spectrum display.
With version 12.1_pre2 the floor dropped to around -90 and stabilized.
With version 12.1_pre2_5550 the floor is sitting at around -150 and quiet as a lamb.

He attached screen shot is 80M a minute or 2 ago.
