This upgrades the Hermes mainboard of the ANAN-100 and ANAN-10 transceivers. This firmware is a Protocol 1 release for use with the PowerSDR OpenHPSDR mRX PS software. Release notes and the download link for the Hermes_v3.2.rbf file are located at the link below:

Thanks, Rob. 3.2 is not new, it had been located under "releases". However thanks for the "heads up" that they have now posted it at the root level. I will update the "sticky" post that points to all of the firmware.

Right. I installed it the day it was released and it has been solid for my ANAN-100 Hermes board. Then again, the 3.1 version was also very un-problematic. I think the big one for the ANAN-100/10 owners will be the next Protocol 2 firmware release for the Hermes based rigs. At that time I'll get around to installing the bootloader switch!

Hi,

i wonder will there be an Apache version of the 3.2 Hermes firmware, too? You know, a b version that uses the correct LPF while in ALEX mode!

Is this really a firmware problem, Bernhard, or a PowerSDR problem?

It isn't an actual Problem. It just is the different Anan LPF arrangement !

When You press the Alex-Button the Firmware, not PowerSDR determines which LPF is chosen, right? And our Anan radio LPF's differ somewhat from the classic Alex filters, right? I guess on 12 Meter, the correct LPF is the one for 15?!? This is why Apache always offered a "b" version of the Firmware. To engage the right LPF!

I have one of the first batch of ANAN-100's to be delivered and use the 'b' version for exactly that reason. I did install 3.2 to test, but hope the 'b' version comes out soon.

Thanx for the confirmation, Mike! I know we could change the takeover frequencies between the LPF's ourself, manually in P-SDR but i want to be 100% sure how, before i will do that!

Scott, are You able to get that information from the folks in India? I believe Your connection to them is faster than mine! HI

Or is someone from Apache reading here as well?

I'm afraid you gent's have me at a bit of a loss. When I look at the repository for all of the Hermes firmware I do not see any "b" versions:

https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-Firmware/tree/master/Protocol%201/Hermes/previous%20Hermes%20versions

I will endeavor to find them, if they are somewhere to be found!

Scott,

I only remember ever downloading the 'b' version from the Apache Lab site.

Scott, You could neither find it on the TAPR nor on Joe's download sites! I suppose the Apache people themselves did the little change in the Hermes firmware and uploaded it on their own webpage!

https://apache-labs.com/instant-downloads.html : Hermes Firmware v3.1b

But, thank You for Your effort! It would be ok to now how to change the values of the takeover frequencies in PowerSDR for the manual mode! Of course, with a none 'b' version, we should not transmit on the higher frequencies anymore when ALEX is engaged!

Right you are, Bernhard! After exchanging some email last night I was able to determine that at this time Abhi is extremely busy on another project and therefore a version of 3.2b may not be immediately forthcoming. I will continue to track this situation and keep you updated.

However, taking a critical look at the release notes for 3.2 here:

https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-Firmware/blob/master/Protocol%201/Hermes/Hermes%20release%20notes.txt

It would seem the only substantive change is to bring the SPI write scheme into alignment with the other firmware versions. If you are not having relay switching problems then there is really no advantage in upgrading from 3.1 to 3.2. Indeed, if no one is having these problems on the 10 or 100B it is probably not worth the work to push out a 3.2b at this time.

Scott, this is what i think too! The big change will come sooner or later anyway. But it would be a big help to know how to do it manually at least! I'll try to find this information in the Yahoo-Group jungle! The relay switching issue doesn't appear often but i can see it now and again too.

This is the posting where i have found the information:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/apa ... ages/12740

I noticed that i can hear a relay click when i move over 25 MHz with Alex engaged! So, i believe this might be the correct way to adjust the takeover frequencies manually:

Would be nice if Abhi could confirm this?!?

Latest FPGA code (Hermes1-v3.2b) for ANAN-10 and 100 is available here:

https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-Firmware/tree/master/Protocol%201/ANAN-10%20%26%20100

This updates the release to match the latest ANAN-10E and 100B release.

Please ensure that when obtaining the file from gitub you use the ‘Download’ button to obtain the file.

Phil,

according to Abhi's posting from 2014 the 17/15 Meter LPF is used for TX on 12 Meters on the Anan radios but that looks different on the Realese Notes for the Hermes10_v3.2b.rbf Firmware!

- Modified LPF_select.v to use 12/10m LPF when on 15m for use with ANAN-10 and 100.

Can You clarify this?

Before making V3.2b I checked with Abhi, this is what he said in his email reply

"The only change I had implemented to the code was in the LPF_SELECT.v file I had changed 15M to use the 12/10M LPF"

So that's what I did.........

Ok Phil,

very confusing. I sent Abhi a query asking for clarification! I hope he's answering soon!

Phil, I don't know how you guys can keep all this stuff straight given the variety of hardware you are dealing with across the ANAN line and also the original TAPR hardware.

As Bernhard mentioned above, in the thread from 2014 that he linked to, Abhi explained to us that the "b" version mapped the 12 meter band through the 17/15 meter LPF. I found another reference to this as well from around the same time.

"This (v2.7) should not be used with the ANAN-10/100, I will shortly update the Apache site with the modified version (v2.7b), this is required as the 10/100 use the 17/15M bank LPF for 12M as well while Alex filters use the 10M LPF for 12M, 73s, Abhi"

The above statement is from a thread beginning with message #12173 in the Apache Labs Yahoo Group.

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/apache-labs/conversations/messages/12173

Thanks and 73,

Rob W1AEX
