ANAN-7000DLE Update

ANAN-7000DLE Update:

We are happy to inform everyone waiting for the 7000DLEs that the factory has completed production of the first lot of PCBs, now we will commence integration of the electronics into the chassis and subsequent testing and burn-in of the radios, expected ship date is mid November.
Thank you for your patience!
The ANAN-7000DLE receiver performance should be virtually identical to the 8000DLE, however, it also provides additional Rx bypass ports.
Transmit linearity is excellent with typical IMD3 (PureSignal enabled) is 68dB below 100W PEP Output, this puts it almost at par with the 8000DLE.
Many thanks to Ken N9VV, Doug W5WC, Phil VK6PH, Warren NR0V, Joe K5SO for their help in preparing the Manual, Firmware and Software for the radio.
Here is a link to the Manual:

Hello Abhi,

reading the manual I didn't find Line Out connectors as described in the 7000 DLE Spec.

Are there no Line out signals available? (I need them)

Hi Volker,

Yes, no Line Out, have been replaced by the two Digital Inputs, the Orion MKII header does provide the Line Outs but they are not connected to the back panel,

What do you need the line out for?

Thanks,

Abhi

Hi Abhi,

thanks for the reply.

I am currently running an ANAN-100 in a SO2R environment with a K3 controlled by a Microham MK2R+.

The 7000DLE will replace my 100.
I am using VAC for CW skimmer
That's why I would like to keep on using analog outputs. Main RX would be ok.

I would also add that a lot of people are using higher end, amplifier speaker configurations that would benefit from having true line out level signals available. I would venture a guess that there are many more such people than those using the digital inputs.

I will be glad to use DIG In straight key connected to my MicroHam keyer.
That's a very good idea.
Additional Stereo 3,5mm socket for Line OUT L/R or Line Out Left (Main RX) wirde to useless Line IN Right would be great.....

Why not attach the keyer to the KEY input? The Microham keyers will pass through an external key or paddle, so using the KEY input would not cause a connectivity issue.

As for adding another jack for line out, my suggestion would be to change the DE9 to a DE15, move all digital IOs to that connector, and put the audio line outs back onto the RCAs.

For those who might have a bad taste in their mouths over the DB25 connectors on the 100 and 200 series, the DE series connectors on the 7000 and 8000 have a more appropriate mechanical configuration that eliminates the mating issues that exist on the older radios.

Hi Scott,

If we are going to use those line level outputs instead of the digital ones is there a separate gain adjustment for them and when earphones are plugged into front of unit is the line output muted? 73, Bill, WA2DVU Cape May, NJ

Bill,

Short answer: no.

Long answer: the openHPSDR hardware architecture, and every board from the original Hermes to the Orion MkII, uses audio IO based on the TI TLV320AIC23B CODEC. Theoretically this chip allows for the line out level to be independent of the headphone output level. However, if you look at the schematics of any of the SDR boards, you will see that while the line out is available on the IDC header connector, it is also used to drive the speaker amplifier, and the software and firmware is written such that the output levels of the speakers and headphones track with each other. This means that the line outputs are effectively synchronized with the headphones output.

Not how I would have done it, but I was not around when the Hermes was being designed and had no input into the design, not that anyone would have paid attention to me anyway ;)

I will say that I am fully virtualized, meaning that I use audio from the VAC interface exclusively. I pass this through a software mixer and am thereby able to obtain different levels for digi mode software, headphones and speakers that way.

Scott

I don't have any Fabio. Emailing the factory might be your best bet. However, looking at the TAPR repository, there have been three releases of Orion Mk II firmware in the last 10 days. So development activity is high. That's either good news (bugs are being squashed rapidly) or bad news (there are lots of bugs), not sure which!

Wow! I didn’t know HRO had them in stock already!

Heard from GigaParts yesterday, and they are still about 4 weeks away from getting their shipment from Apache.

FedEx says my 7000 will deliver on Tuesday from India.

That’s funny, Gigaparts told me on Tuesday Nov 21 that 4 we’re arriving at gigaparts on Friday Nov 24. I reserved my 7000DLE in early August at Gigaparts, but was told I was number 5 in line (on Tuesday) and might have to wait until next Friday for the next batch. It depended if number 4 returned a phone call by Black Friday. Somebody not recalling conversations correctly. In any event, buyer beware, and reservations evidently don’t mean crap. I also reserved a 7000DLE at HRO in October, and haven’t heard from them either.

The kid at Gigaparts boasted that they were the “Number 1 Apache Labs Dealer” in the US and nobody would have stock or quantity before them.

I think this kind of info should be distributed so that customers can ask questions and draw their own conclusions.

Received mine this morning direct from Apache. SDR is completely new to me. Had some issues connecting which turned out to be the bootloader switch on the bottom that had been moved. W5WC quickly helped and I was connected.

Got mine today from HRO and have it working fine. Took me a little while to get it going I didn’t expect the switch on the bottom to be set to boot loader, something to check if it doesn’t startup for you right away. I did a little head scratching for about a half hour.

Operation appears to be fine but have noticed the front panel has no lettering below the three 1/8th jacks and the LAN plug. So no MIC under left jack, no HEADPHONE under the
middle jack, no KEY under right jack along with no LAN under the LAN Plug. It looks fine other than the lettering.

I sent of photo of the front panel to the dealer and I was told it was forwarded to Apache Labs. Hey! I could have a rare valuable piece of gear here!!!!

Bottom line operation is fantastic.
