Abhi,

Could we get more details about what is new about the 8000 MKII? The ad copy on the website doesn't really explain it. Don't all 8000DLE MKI's have the TX attenuator already? Is the 50V final RF amplifier stage the same as in the 8000 MKI? Or is it a new 50V design that does not have the high impedance/high voltage behavior?

Thanks & 73,

Scott

Yes I would be interested in details too as I am just about to purchase a new Anan.

- I do not see a dedicated transverter RX input, is it missing or does the 8000 MKII have a combined RX/TX transverter port?
- RX/TX switching with (noisy?) relays or quiet PIN diodes?

hw?

Hi Scott/Volker/Tony and all,

These are the changes incorporated into the MKII compared to the previous model:

1. Incorporates the Orion MKII rev5.2 with the Tx attenuator (please note that all 8000DLEs shipped in the last few months also incorporate the same revision of the Orion MKII)

2. Use of 48v input as opposed to the 13.8v DC IN, these are now several very good 48v DC supplies available and also much cheaper than a 13.8v 50A equivalent models, There is a cost saving by removing the internal 13.8v to 48v boost supply.

3. changes to the PA board and LPF to improve performance and duty cycle, the PA design and Output device is the same.

4. We now no longer need the Arduino Display and the complexities arising out of it.

5. The enclosure footprint has been reduced.

The 8000DLE amd the MKII uses exactly the same transverter output scheme, both have a relay switched combined Tx/Rx output. The Transverter port in the 8000DLE is marked as "Transverter Tx Out" , however, it is actuallt a combined Tx/Rx port.

OK, so the same old 8000 if you don't quibble about the revision of the Orion MKII, but without the annoying front panel, the complexity of the internal 50V upconverter, and smaller dimensions. All welcome changes, plus the lower price.

However, there must be a 50 to 12VDC power supply inside now, correct?

Does the factory have any recommendations on 50V, 600W power supplies? The only thing I can find new that is not stratospheric-ally priced are a couple of "Mean Well" brand supplies on Amazon, both under $100. Are those any good?

Otherwise you have to search around for server "blade" supplies that start at around $250 and go up from there, unless you going to buy the same thing, used, on eBay. And you've got to play games terminating 120V into the blind mate connectors on those.

Hi Scott,

As I mentioned there are significant changes to the LPF, SWR/Directional coupler design. The 200W PA has been tweaked as well.

There is an internal low noise DC-DC converter for the 12v rail.

I would recommend using Meanwell HEP-600-48, its completely silent and rugged. If fan noise does not bother you there are several other options such as the Meanwell RSP-750-48
