I just noticed this on the Apache web site:

Not a fan of that case style, but wonder what they did to get to these 2 listed improvements:
2. PA board improvements for higher duty cycle, 100% ICAS duty cycle supported.
3. Tx Signal generation redesigned to improve SNR at low power levels.

I don't like the larger size either, but I suppose anything that assists with heat management is good. I've been playing a "shell game" on my desktop, trying to figure out placement that works while not disrupting present operating ergonomics.
Concerning points 2 & 3, see Ahbi's reply from the Apache mail list:
"So far as the improvements in the hardware are concerned:
"1. Bigger heatsink
2. Changed components of the PA LPF and SWR bridge for higher duty cycle, ie the radio is more rugged now.
3. The Tx chain now controls power using a digital step attenuator and the DAC is now always driven 100%, this results in higher SNR at low power levels."

Take a look at the Apache Labs website this morning.
The old style 7000DLE is no longer in the product lineup.
It was still there as late as Saturday, when I last looked.

Wonder if there is a mod path to update older boards, or is it not significant enough? I only run my 7000 @ 30W to drive my amp anyways.
