Angelia 6.0 firmware released (current protocol/Protocol 1)

Postby w-u-2-o » Fri Dec 01, 2017 3:20 pm

From Joe...

All,

Angelia_v6.0 firmware for Angelia/ANAN-100D (Protocol 1) is available for download from the GitHub repository:

https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-Firmware/tree/master/Protocol%201/Angelia%20(ANAN-100D)

This version of firmware allows the user to change the Rx5 frequency during Tx or Rx when PureSignal mode is inactive. As before, when PureSignal mode is enabled Rx5 is dedicated to providing RF feedback for PureSignal support during transmit mode.

Hi Scott, Pure Signal has also stopped working for me with the v6 firmware on my 100D. I am running OpenHPSDR v3.4.6

Yes, based on reports, the latest round of Protocol 1 firmware releases, intended to correct the RX5 issue, have all proven to appear to not make timing on the entire population of radios out there. It will work for some people, not for others.

Joe's recommendation at this time is to use the latest firmware that works for you. He is endeavoring to find a way to make the timing converge in a way that will work for everyone.

Unfortunately Joe does not have a selection of radios there that represents the entire population to test on, just his one set of radios. And the developers have chosen to remain with Quartus Prime Lite as the development environment as they feel this free tool best captures the philosophy of open source, i.e. to go to a more capable but non-free (actually quite expensive) tool like Quartus Prime Standard, would not be in the best spirit of open source development.

As the firmware continues to increase in complexity, the challenges to get it to function definitely increase as well. Things that are easily within the grasp of commercial developers (more people, more hardware, more sophisticated tools) are not resources that are so easily available to small scale open source development.

If there are any experienced firmware developers out there, I'm sure Joe would love to hear any ideas you might have for squeezing more performance out of build environment.

Scott

I had an older (no serial #) 100D using 5.7 successfully for PS. Upgraded to 6.0 and no PS!, but went back to 5.7 and PS worked fine. I did not try 5.8 or 5.9 since 5.7 was working well for me. The unit has since been sold and I passed the word on to the new owner about the 6.0 firmware.
