Orion 5.0 firmware released (current protocol/Protocol 1)

Postby w-u-2-o » Wed Jul 19, 2017 3:05 am

Posting for Joe...

All,

Orion_v5.0 is available for download here:

https://github.com/TAPR/OpenHPSDR-Firmware/tree/master/Protocol%201/Orion%20(ANAN-200D)

Some software applications, such as PowerSDR, do not use Rx6 or Rx7 but some do, such as cuSDR and Skimmer. If your favorite software package does not use Rx6 or Rx7 then the new firmware will not do anything new for you but it would not hurt to install it anyway in case some day you use some software that does use Rx6 or Rx7.

Thanks to Vasiliy K3IT for pointing out the problem.

It looks like Joe's efforts to implement all 7 receivers with the Orion version 5.0 firmware were very successful. No problems running 7 receivers with CuSDR 64-Bit v0.3.3.0 driving my ANAN-200D. The network utilization was not a problem as it only reached 81% with all 7 receivers running. Note that the sampling rate was set for 192K.

Thank you Joe!

The video shows the ANAN-200D running 7 receivers with CuSDR-64bit v0.3.3.0 by Hermann - DL3HVH. Note that the "chugging" you see in the video is the screen capture software choking on the 1820x1024 resolution of this video. The actual display is very smooth. 2 receivers are on the AM BCB, 1 receiver is on 160 meters, 2 receivers are on 75 meters, 1 receiver is on 40 meters, 1 receiver is on 20 meters, and 1 receiver is on 17 meters.

I have noticed that RX-5 (which can be seen sitting on 17 meters) seems to be deaf. No matter what band it is tuned to it does not receive any signals. Not sure about that one but the other 6 receivers work fine.

Rob,

I use OBS to get full resolution recordings with absolutely no artifacts. The resulting flv files are huge, but they are perfect.

Thanks for the tip Scott! I've never heard of it but it's free, which is right in my wheelhouse, so I'll give that a try!

If you want to get all crazy and start streaming live, it's also good for that! :)

Yeah, I saw that it has that capability! I like the software and as you can see from my very first video it does a very nice job at 1920x1080. I need to watch one of the tutorials or read the manual so that I can crop and edit the output. It must not like layers because when I use one of the receiver pop-up control panels they are invisible. Have to see if there is a setting to handle that. At any rate, thanks again for the tip on OBS!

Set your scene up to capture the screen, not the window. It's quite a powerful tool, you'll like it more as you learn it.

The embedded player didn't look that great, but I played it on Youtube, forced 1080, and went full screen. It looked as perfect as could be considering I don't have the exact same resolution screen as you.

The easiest way to stream is to set up a Twitch account and stream to it. 14 second delay, but it'll get you in the swing of things for streaming. The only way to get the stream latency down to say 3 or 4 seconds is to set up your own RTMP stream server and open a port in the router. That's what I did. I initially hosted it on my shack PC, then dusted off an old Core 2 machine I had and stuck in the basement to handle the RTMP and web server duties.

Scott,

The OBS screen capture/streaming software runs circles around everything else I have messed around with. I made a 1280x720 Profile that will perfectly grab OpenHPSDR mRX PS no matter where I place it on the screen. My CPU utilization moves from 7% to 11% when the capture is running. That's amazing!

As you noted, the embedded player here does not pick up the HD flag. If you watch it at YouTube it is crystal clear and full HD.

Thanks again for the tip! I'll make a 1920x1080 profile for CuSDR captures later tonight. Great fun, eh?

Glad you are having fun, Rob. You know you can mix and match windows into a single scene, right?

Let me know when you start streaming ;)
