Hi,
is there a plan, to integrate the EER transmit mode for protocol 2 for the ORION MKII board?
On Orion Mk II boards, J16 IDC - pin 10 "BUFF_OUT" is prepared for this option.

EER Transmit Mode in Protocol 2
Re: EER Transmit Mode in Protocol 2
AFIAK, the answer in the past, from the dev's at the time, was "No". This goes back to Protocol 1.
Implementing this function would require at least four things: an EER amp designer, a viable hardware design for the amp, a knowledgeable algorithm developer, a knowledgeable firmware developer, and a software developer. That's not necessarily four different people, but functionally.
Are you aware of any such resources?
It would be a very "next generation" type of thing. A quick Google search show some grad. student and hobbyist activity in this area but it was all back in the naughties, with nothing significant coming up in the search results newer than 2010.

Re: EER Transmit Mode in Protocol 2
Sry for the silly question, but what is "EER transmit mode"?
The search engine of my choice does'nt bring up any suitable information.

Re: EER Transmit Mode in Protocol 2
Ernst,
EER is the abbreviation for Envelope Elimination & Restoration. That mode is addressed in chapter 6.4.7 of the Thetis User Manual 1.1.

Re: EER Transmit Mode in Protocol 2
AFAIK, nobody has done anything except dabble a bit in this area where amateur radio HF amplifier designs are concerned, and that work never resulted in anything other than the leftover code we still see in the openHPSDR software and firmware.
The technique is utilized in the cellular industry in both handsets and towers, where the race for improved efficiency and linearity will never end. Of course they have trillions of dollars to spend on developing things like this.
