Adding a dedicated PCIe Ethernet card for 8000DLE

Postby cLicari » Fri Mar 01, 2019 7:09 pm

I'm considering adding a PCIe Gigabit Ethernet card dedicated to the 8000DLE instead of running it to the router as it is now. Anyone have any advice or thoughts on doing this before I start would be appreciated. Although I've built my share of computers I don't consider myself a network guy so any do's or don't's would be great. Running analog audio, VAC not in use. Home wifi security cam causes a running OOOps count. Without security cam running of not surfing web OOOps are rock steady at 2. If you think this is a waste of time please say so.
Computer is a Win10 Home, Asus Maximus X Hero single Ethernet port, Intel 8700K, 32GB ram, EVGA Nvidia GTX1060, M.2 500GB.

Thx

Not a waste of time if it fixes your issues. And NICs are cheap. So not a lot of money down the drain if it doesn't work out for you.

My recommendation is to not rely on APIPA (the automagic addressing that happens when you hook up two network devices directly with no router, etc.) Instead, set up both the new NIC and the 8000 on static IP addresses on a different subnet than the other NIC uses.

For instance, if the rest of your network is 192.168.1.x, then make the new NIC 192.168.5.1 and the 8000 192.168.5.2. You will need to use either HPSDR Programmer or HPSDR Bootloader to change the IP of the 8000. Just ask if you are not certain how.

You may also need to adjust the "network metric" settings on the PC.

Scott...
I'll still be using the router for wireless devices but just not for the 8000. Unfortunately I could probably use some guidance with Programmer or Bootloader, as well as the "network metrics". Sorry, this is all foreign to me.
Hopefully I don't FU something that is working well now.......with some limitations that is.

Scott/Rob (W1AEX)...

I found Rob's "The ANAN Ethernet Connection: DHCP or Direct Connection with Static IP?" web page which explains all I should need to know to complete this process.

Thx

.....and thank you Rob for the detailed explanation on how to complete this process.
You two are GREAT assets to this community.

Scott/Rob....
Today in installed a NIC card in my computer. I then read through Rob's post on moving the Anan to a separate network.
I Followed Rob's instructions and it worked like a charm. I did need to go to Bootloader to make the IP change in the 8000, but stumbled through it successfully.
This has alleviated my issue with OOOps count rising rapidly from my home security camera being on the same network. No drops at all! I don't know what other performance improvements I can expect but I'm very happy with the immediate results.
Thanks again to both of you.
