8000DLE Diversity Setup

Postby WA0VY » Mon May 29, 2017 3:48 pm

I am just now putting my diversity antenna in line and found myself scratching my head. Reviewing the manual, I see a reference to "RF1" which is said to me "reserved." However, on my 8000, that connector is marked "ADC 2." not "RF 1." I am assuming that will be where the diversity antenna should be connected but find nothing in the manual confirming that. I am also assuming that none of ANT 1 - ANT 3 connectors are used for diversity.

One final assumption is that ADC 2 will use BPF 2. Am I correct or am about blow something up?

Your assumptions are correct, Brent! The 8000 and the Orion MK II implements essentially the same switching architecture as the 200D.

Kudos to Apache for labeling this connector "ADC2", which will substantially help to eliminate the confusion associated with what RX2 is, or needs to be, assigned to in the software to make this work. Unfortunately the manual has not caught up with reality. And yet the labeling worked, as you intuitively figured out exactly which connector to use.

You are also correct in that the ADC2 input flows through the second set of BPFs.

I am lost, I am new to Apache Labs products and I have no ADC2 on my 8000. I have a RF1 but you both agree that isn't it. What am I missing?

RF1 and ADC2 are the same connector and perform the same function. The only difference is the labeling: "RF1" on the earlier units, "ADC2" on the later units. RF present on that connector, regardless of labeling, flows through the ADC2 preselection filtering and into ADC2.

Been a while since I played with diversity....but now that I try the form won't come up.

I have an ANAN 100 so what's the magic to get diversity going? Or is the lack of a true 2nd ADC stopping it now? Seems I did test this out with the PowerSDR software but Thetis is not cooperating.

Single ADC hardware, like your ANAN-100, will not allow diversity to be used. Diversity (actually very poorly named, it's really two-element coherent beamforming) requires two separate data streams from two separate antennas at the same time. Even if the software did not check for the proper hardware configuration you would not be able to get it to do anything useful with single ADC hardware.
