Receiver preamp?

Postby w8du » Fri Sep 17, 2021 5:25 pm

I just installed a "loop on the ground" antenna (see KK5JY.net) and it seems to be quite effective in many circumstances in improving SNR. However, it does have a lower level of signal strength. I was looking for a receive preamp in Thetis, but was unable to find it. Can someone direct me to the location in Thetis that allows me to engage and control a receive preamp (I am assuming there is such a feature)?
Thanks...73 de Arnie W8DU

There is no switchable preamp in the hardware designs except on the 6M preselector path. In general, none is needed. On all Hermes, Angelia and Orion based hardware there is a fixed, 20dB gain differential amp which is designed specifically for use with the ADCs. On all Orion MKII based hardware that same amp is 14dB gain.

Oh well. Thanks for letting me know that I was not overlooking it in Thetis.
