Frequency Resolution/Accuracy for OpenHPSDR + 100B

Postby k6avp » Mon Nov 19, 2018 11:14 pm

Does anyone know what the max resolution and actual accuracy of the 100B's VFO frequencies used within the 100B's FW, OpenHPSDR and reported via CAT are?

I am wondering whether a GPSDO external reference is worthwhile if it's not much better than the cal function and VFO readouts.

PowerSDR provides 1Hz tuning resolution on all radios (since PowerSDR forms the bulk of the radio functionality).

Accuracy of the WWV calibration method in PowerSDR results in sub-Hertz accuracy on all radio models. However, that calibration is not necessarily stable and may need to be repeated every few hours to maintain that level of accuracy, depending primarily on the temperature fluctuations of the radio and the shack. If you leave your radio on continuously and have a stable shack temperature it will hold the calibration within a few Hertz for a long time.

Where the GPSDO really shines is in the long term stability of the calibration. It will maintain accuracy in the milliHertz range and eliminates the requirement to ever do a calibration yourself.

You can read a lot more about them in this thread:

Good to know. Do you know if OpenHPSDR repeats better than 1Hz resolution to CAT connections - say allowing the WSJT-X cal function to record correctly for fractional Hz drifts?

CAT data is output with 1Hz precision. Sub-Hertz tuning or resolution is not available in the current version of PowerSDR.

Do you know if any of the other ANAN compatible programs (piHPSDR, SDR console, Thetis), or even the Hermes FW can provide/output accurate subHz resolution?

None can do that as far as I know.
