Re: Angelia F3 PTC ("fuse") replacement/upgrade for Protocol 2

Hi,

Following this topic with the lid being off my 100D :)

Is there any evidence to suggest the new fuse or bridge enables the 100D to run P2 more reliably. Also curious if anyone did the cooling mod(uprated fan) + this mod together actually found more or less stability.

OT but the pressed riser ~~~~ filter under the fan looks directional to the sides of the case. I was thinking about turning it 90deg toward the PSU and the F3 fuse in a bid to pull heat from the lower deck....

TIA

My 100D continues to gather dust since the 8000 is the daily driver. Thus, unfortunately, no news on the F3 topic. But if I was going to blow the dust off of it I'd do the mod.

A bit off topic, but see my old article on 100D cooling here: http://wu2o.dyndns.org/wu2o_fans.html. It should apply to any of the older models. Just putting an external fan on the top of the case does wonders.

I have the updated fan as mentioned in your article which should arrive sometime this week. Like you said, it certainly cant hurt and I have a suitable 120mm fan which can go on the top already.

There is now way I would attempt to the new fuse myself but the component is ridiculously cheap so I'll order a couple maybe and see if I can find a professional that would do it for me.

Thanks for the response.

Don't forget the external fan. That's what really matters.

Roger that, Scott.

I just noticed on Bobs Angelia board the power plug stands vertical (bottom right). My one is different and turned 90 degrees toward the PSU. Does this depict if early/late board for the nosy bugger in me.

Cheers.

Well done. Do let us know how P2 firmware runs for you.

Can't say for certain on the age of your board. My 100D is one of the oldest units, and is like yours, so I'd initially guess "early build". However, maybe that is a change they made after adding the center shield piece to the design, so maybe later build, because wouldn't the vertical power connector interfere with the shield? Does Bob's unit have the center shield?

If you look closely at the photo, you can see mine has the improved TCXO board, the old linear supply swapped for the switching power supply, and is modified for an external PureSignal switch to avoid the horrendous crosstalk on the early rev. 15 and 16 RF boards.

If I ever get around to it, I think I'll add a heatsink to the Ethernet PHY chip as well.

Would you believe both fuse models are on 20+ week lead time :o so that has put paid to that. Not sure its a good idea to swap the fuse for a jumper so ill probably do all the jobs including the RX1 mod and test the heck out of the firmwares available. Are you able to run P2 with your 100D? If so which version. Also, have you performed the throttling Index as a bench mark?

I may fire up the CNC and make a new front panel with a fan or two mounted to it, replace the centre shield( would stainless work ?). This radio could keep me busy whilst the 7000dle mk2 sits there laughing at me :D

Good evening from over the pond.

Four years after starting this topic I'm finally getting around to modifying my old ANAN-100D. I ordered a Littlefuse 1210L450SLWR to replace the stock part so as to do it up right.

Upon taking apart my 100D, imagine my surprise when I find this:

It turns out that during the very, very, early days of Protocol 2 development, way back in 2016, for which I was a beta tester, my 100D absolutely refused to run the code. I sent it back to Doug for "repair" and it came back in a state that allowed it to run the early P2 firmware. He had said that he had replaced the Angelia card. That part was no surprise, because it was evident early on that the firmware builds were not making timing on all serial numbers. But what he neglected to mention was that he apparently also "fixed" the F3 problem. In fact, at that time, nobody was even talking about the F3 problem, it was not common knowledge. But it must of been so to the Apache head shed. Interesting...
