Hi Harry,

The gray faced radios were some of the earliest radios produced. They will have older revision PA/RF and SDR circuit cards in them.

I have a gray faced 100D here. The previous owner was an early adopter who, when he received it, it had a Rev. 15 PA/RF board in it, which he subsequently had upgraded to a Rev. 16 board, which is what is in it now. The latest revision is a Rev. 24 board (there are only those three revisions, 15, 16 and 24).

However, when all of the ANAN-100's (no "D) were built, I'm not certain that any were built with the improved Rev. 24 boards. I think only the later production 100B's, 100D's and 200D's shipped with Rev. 24 boards in them.

So, if that's the case, there's probably little difference between the two other than the color of the front panel, as the differences between the Rev. 15 and 16 boards are minor.

I assume you are trying to choose between two different used radios?

Scott
