"Conflict" between TCI and TCP?

Postby JJ4SDR » Fri Mar 29, 2024 4:20 pm

I did have my N1MM+ logging work pretty well about a year ago. Will retrace the steps I took to see what the mistake is that I will have committed. From memory, I think that I operated my SS amp using either RF sensing or CAT control, NOT TCI, which may explain why I got it all to work.

The amp, Thetis and N1MM+ are all on the same PC. Unmanaged Ethernet T switch used to tie pieces of hardware together.

Played around with this yesterday and for some reason:
1). The frequency on the N1MM+ spectrum did not match that on the Panadapter of Thetis. The N1MM+ frequency was always off, but it did change when I tuned to another frequency on Thetis, remaining off compared to the frequency displayed on Thetis.
2). The number of TCI clients kept rising from the normal 1 (I use TCI with my RF2K-S amplifier and it works very well). However, I also have a USB connection between the amp and Thetis. TCI is for use of VNC (Virtual Network Control) that enables porting the amp GUI and operating the amp via a mouse on the external display.

Realizing that I haven't included screen-shots, I will do that a little later, not to waste anyone's time (which I may have already done  ).

Happy Easter/Holiday!

My screen-capture SW failed so I am inserting images using capture feature of Windows which explains partial redundancy. I believe that the IP addresses on the N1MM "Broadcasting" aren't correct at all which is caused by my lack of understanding of IP/Ports. :( The error message clearly says that Thetis and N1MM+ aren't communicating.

You've got quite a train wreck going on there! Everything is interfering with everything else because you are using the same ports everywhere.

You can't use the same port for both TCI and TCP. Make them different in Thetis. Adjust your other software and hardware as necessary to match your selections. TCI clients go to the TCI port, TCP (CAT) clients go to the TCP port.

You did a good job in choosing the external IP address binding for TCI since the amp is connecting to that from it's own IP. Similarly you did a good job of selecting the localhost IP address binding for TCP because N1MM and Thetis are running on the same PC. But the ports need to be different.

The broadcast tab in N1MM offers no functionality that Thetis can exploit and that should be put back to the default of 12060.

TCI has nothing to do with VNC. They can be used separately or together to control the amp however you wish, but they are not interdependent.

Thanks!

As far as choosing ports, can I choose them at will?

Well......at least some things I did were "good."

It would probably be best to use the default ports.

Juha has an extra zero in the N1MM configuration window.

Should be 127.0.0.1:13013 not 127.0.0.0.1:13013

INDEED!

How about settings under Thetis "User Interface" where it also shows N1MM Port and Focus Master. Is there a minimum speed in baud that I must use?

Got it to work except that for some reason I only got flagged 1 MULT once on 15 meter band although just about all of the stations are still MULTS, being that the CQWPX contest just started. Perhaps I try another cluster.....

AFAIK baud rate does not matter with virtual cables.
