No cat control with WSJTX, Thetis and 7000DLE mk11

Postby k4fmx » Wed Dec 15, 2021 7:05 am

I have a brand new 7000DLE MK11 and a new computer has I7 9700, 16 G of ram, windows 10 pro.
Have Com0Com and Voicemeter Banana installed. Trying to make it work with WSJTX.

The audio path thru Voicemeter works sometimes and sometimes I have to turn it off and back on to get audio thru along with some other gyrations that seem different everytime to make it work. When working I get some decode in WSJT but I soon get an error because there is no com port.

I can not see any of the com ports in Thetis. It only shows USB as a selection, no other com ports. It will not let me turn on CAT control.

Any help on this?
Thanks,

Forgot to mention the radio has protocall 1 firmware.

Thanks

Gary: let's get CAT working first.

Have you defined a port pair in com0com? What ports are they?

Is one of the ports defined in Thetis > Setup > CAT Control > CAT (or CAT+)? All 4 instances of CAT are equivalent in Thetis, you can use any one of them.

Is the other port defined in WSJT-X > Setup > Radio?

Baud rate doesn't matter, just match them across the board. I use 115200. Set the rest of the parameters to 8N1.

Recommend you use the "Kenwood TS-2000" setting in WSJT-X, and CAT PTT.

Or is all this Ancient Greek to you?

You can also use the FlexRadio/ANAN PowerSDR/Thetis entry.

Thanks Scott.
I have the ports (0) renamed from cna1 and cna2 to com21 and com22 in the com0com setup.
The second set that comes up (1) are left undefined.

They do show up in Windows device manager as> com0com-seerial port emulators.
Bus for serial port emulator 0 (com21<->com22)
1 (com#)

none of the com ports show in thetis and I can not turn on com ports there, only USB. if I overwrite that it still does nothing.

I am using kenwood 2000 as the radio

WSJT does not see any com ports.

thanks

Something is wrong with your com0com installation. Uninstall com0com, reboot, reinstall, reboot, in that order. Ignore any port that is not of the form "com5" or similar.

This video might be helpful as an example.

I gave up on com0com. I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times and could not get the programs to see the ports.

I downloaded VSPD and installed. It works great, everything is seen in the programs as expected!
I don't know why com0com would not work.

Thanks for your help!

I much prefer Eterlogic VSPE even though it costs $25. It's always been rock stable for me and offers a lot of capability for monitoring that other options do not.

Hello,
I've just configured WSJT-X on my ANAN G2 and found that Eterlogic VSPE is the way to go. The com0com software worked for me earlier today on FT8 and WSPR. Then COM21 COM22 stopped working. I even reinstalled com0com but WSJT-X wouldn't work anymore.

Then I came across this thread in the forum and decided to uninstall com0com and try the suggested Eterlogic VSPE. It comes with a 4 week free trial period.

Problem fixed. FT8, WSPR, etc. worked the first time and continue working.

Hope that helps.

For WSJT-X you don't need any virtual serial ports. Activate TCPIP-Cat in Thetis and use the IP-address + port in WSJT-X.

Actually a bit better if you choose PowerSDR instead of TS-2000.
I think I'll add Thetis as another choice.

It would be really great to see Thetis formally supported in hamlib :)

Any opinion on what I should use for the Manufacturer name?
Apache? It's not really them....at least I don't think Ritchie is working for them, is he?
I can't seem to think of anything better....but since only Apache is supported makes sense I think.

Thetis is open source.

No Thetis developer receives any remuneration from Apache, nor anyone else for that matter.

Thetis is used with a growing variety of hardware platforms: Apache, Hermes Lite, Red Pitaya, TRX Duo, and probably some others I can't think of right now.

The Thetis CAT interface represents an abstraction layer between external controlling software and the actual radio hardware.

IMHO, for all of these reasons there should be no manufacturer name attached to Thetis. It should just be listed as plain old "Thetis".
