Re: 2.7.0

Postby W9BHI » Thu Jun 25, 2020 12:34 am

Not sure where this is supposed to be posted but I just got a blue 7000DLE and downloaded the latest P2 v2.0b.
I am running Thetis v2.7.0a3.
I was using a 200D with the P2 v1.9 and 2.7.0a3.
My problem is that I am running DDUtil and it shows that it is not connected.
The virtual com ports are correct on DDUtil and Thetis.
Nothing was changed.
It was working on the 200D setup but not now with the 7000DLE.
Is there possibly a problem with P2 v2.0b causing Thetis to not communicate on the cat port?
Thanks,

I just had an interesting observation.
If I switch the radio menu to 200D, the DDUtil program sees the radio and reads the VFO 1 frequency.
I switched the menu back to 7000DLE and DDUtil continues to see the radio.
If I shut down Thetis and restart, the cat connection to the radio is lost.
I have done all of the usual things like resetting the data base etc.
Maybe an issue with the 7000DLE part of Thetis?
Thanks,
Don

What version of DDUtil are you using? The last known compatible version is 3.2.6.22. See here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3040

I am using DDUtil v3.2.5.01 that has been working fine on the 200D.

It has nothing to do with your hardware, i.e. 7000, 200D, whatever.

It has nothing to do with the P2 firmware. It has no bearing on the communications between Thetis and DDUtil.

It is very unlikely this is a problem with Thetis. Many other people use Thetis and DDUtil successfully, including myself.

It could possibly be a Thetis database corruption problem. It's a PITA, but you might try resetting your database.

It could possibly be a Windows update problem. What version of Windows are you using, and what virtual serial cable software are you using?

I am running Windows 2004 build and VSP manager by K5FR.
The 200D was just running on this setup 3 days ago with no problems.
I just did a complete database reset and removed any traces of any old files.
I started Thetis and set the correct cat com port and it still won't connect unless you change to 200D and back to 7000DLE.
Looks like like I am not the only one to have this problem.
On the other hand, I am not impressed by the performance of this radio compared to the 200D.
The "S" meter reads 3 with no antenna compared to 0 on the 200D.
I can't get more than 68 watts out on 12 and 17 meters and the Fwd Pwr wattmeter wont calibrate more than 85 watts when my PowerMaster
shows 100 watts.
Maybe I should stick with the 200D. :(

VSPM is proven unstable. Switch to VSPE or com0com and those connection problems will probably go away.

Can't speak to the RF performance problems, but if you contact Doug, W5WC chances are he can fix you right up with hardware that works.

I connected the 200D back up and the DDUtil program works FB.
It also worked for my Flex 3k and 5k with no problems.
I doubt it is a virtual serial port problem, this is the VSP program supplied by Steve for his DDUtil program.
The 7000DLE is being sent to Doug to have the FWD power and "S" meter realigned and to have the 12 and 17 meter power issues fixed.

DL4ZBG,
DId you try setting the radio model to 200D and checking if DDUtil connects?
If it does, set the model back to 7000DLE and see if it stays connected.

Scott's hint (checkbox "DEMO/HPSDR" in DDUtil > Setup > Features) was all I needed. Works now, even with microham virtual port assignment. DDUTIL seems to be fixed to 9600 baud com port speed. Higher speed would be appreciated. Is there any chance to choose a different speed?

Scott's hint fixed the problem with DDUtil not connecting with the 7000DLE Thetis program.
There must be some slight difference in the software or hardware between the 200D and the 7000DLE.
Happy now! :D
