ANAN 7000/8000 - CAT interfaces and SO2R capability?

Postby DL5RBW » Sun Nov 25, 2018 2:30 pm

On behalf of a fellow ham who is interested in purchasing an ANAN I forward this question (see subject) in the hope to get an answer. The major concern is that the ANAN 7000/8000 is not being able to control for example two amplifiers on two different bands say amplifier #1 hooked up to ANT1 for 20 m and amplifier 2 hooked up to ANT2 for 15 m operation. Supposedly the ANAN is able to control equipment on one band only.

If the explanation above makes no sense to you the reason for it may be that I am not particularly interested in contesting let alone SO2R operation and the explanation for the supposed limitation is just transfered from someone else to my best knowledge. So the basic question is: Does the ANAN 7000/8000 transceivers support SO2R operation with external equipment and what is necessary to implement it?

Thanks!

The current software and firmware used in all openHPSDR architecture radios, including those based on Apache Labs hardware, will only support SO2V operation, not full SO2R. Indeed, because of the full duplex capabilities of this architecture, it's actually a little better than SO2V since the second receiver need not be muted during transmit (assuming appropriate band splits, etc.)

However, in the future, given the right software/firmware developer interest, it would be possible to instantly move between two TX frequencies on two ANT ports and attain effective SO2R capability. The hardware is there to do it, just not the software/firmware.

Thanks for the reply. That is exactly all the information that is needed to base a decision upon. I will forward that. To me it seems that SO2R & remote control capability are the most important things to contesters because this is where all their questions turn around. So I am pretty sure that the amount of "customers" will become much bigger once SO2R is possible. The other drawback (for contesters) which is the easy implementation of remote control can for sure be solved too if that is diffcult now which I don´t know.

with new Firmware P2 and Thetis will be possible have SO2R?

or still need be waiting future developments? if still not , have any idea of development time for this ?

thanks

P2 and Thetis work the same as PowerSDR and P1 in this respect.

As far as I know none of the dev's are interested in adding full SO2R capability. However, you are free to lobby them to do so, or to find another dev who wants to work on adding such capability. Remember that all software and firmware is open source and developed by a VERY few volunteers (not Apache employees, Apache produces no software or firmware) and who generally work on things they are interested in.

Hi scott
i'm trying to TX on RX1 and receive on another band/other antenna on RX2.
antennas are set on the 2 different adc and have both ALex on

i made some changing also in setup>rx2 to flag or not flag Auto mute/blank on TX

but always the same. i go in tx on rx1/vfoA the rx is not receiveng any nore.
from what you say previously i understand that this is possible instead.

where is the mistake?
thanks

Not sure. If you are using VAC, then RX2 audio only appears on VAC2.

Scott, who among the Thetis and firmware devs would you recommend contacting about adding full SO2R capability? I'm interested in contributing to this.
