ICOM PW1 CIV with ANAN 7000DLE MKII

Postby electronics-tech » Mon Apr 24, 2023 7:56 pm

Hello to all.

I see very little about this topic. It would be nice to have the CIV work with the CAT control from Thetis for the 7000. Band change is really the only missing component. I have PTT and ALC worked out.

Everything I have tried doesn't work. I used to use DDutil V3.6 with my Flex3000 and it seemed OK. When I emailed Steve about DDutil, he simply said he didn't support PowerSDR of any type. Which is fair and I was able to make it work on my own.

Does anyone have any clues as to how to make the CIV work within Thetis using the Serial/Midi/CAT interface?

Or for that matter using the DB-9 to apply band-switching?

I can build/design hardware and do everything but write code.

Thanks.

It is possible by using Thetis CAT interface out of a serial port. It will be Kenwood CAT protocol. You will need to convert the Kenwood Serial Data to CIV data with an interface board.

Here is the information you need.

Thanks for the reply.

Interesting. Are there any schematics out there for this? Is any of it OpenSource?

Can I construct my own?

Or is this the only way to get the CIV communication to the PW1 from the ANAN?

I have owned other amps, but I sold them in the down cycles. I got this PW-1 in and repaired it from top to bottom but it is old. Maybe time to get rid of it.

Anyone else have any other ideas without buying other hardware for this amplifier? (edited)

No not really open source but no reason you couldn't whip up your own.
Here is where to buy the board. They are cheap enough and easy to get. I think it took a week or 2 to get mine from Russia and you can pay with Paypal. The schematic is posted in his pics.

OK thanks Bill. I looked you up on QRZ. I hope that is the correct handle.

I will look into this more. But I think it is probably time to part with this old PW-1.

It is difficult to interface it to anything really besides the requisite ICOM style Radio with the cables. Which does work just perfect. But I am NOT a KNOB radio guy at all. I have been SDR now since I got my FLEX-3000 back in 2010.

If anyone else has any other information on a simple CIV interface that works I would love to hear it.

Thanks again for your help Bill.

Best.

Ronnie, I ran across this, don't know if it's even related to what you're trying to do.

Maybe Microham Stationmaster can do the job.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

An additional hardware solution is not what I am looking for. I will just ditch this amp and get something that is newer.

Doesn't anyone out there have a software solution to this issue. Something like DDutil ?? It worked so well with The FLEX-3000 and the PW-1. All it has to do is band change. On the CIV. I have the hardware I built 13 years ago that still works fine.

Thanks again.

I have developed a small board for the conversion from BCD to IC-PW1, the PW1 works only via CIV for the band switching.

You can still use DDUtil.

OK. I will read that and see if I can still make it all work.

Thanks so much for your post.

I know this did work with a basic IC2 interface to the CIV from a COMM port.

Ronnie if you do use DDUtil can you please post how you set it up. I have never used it but would like to try it?
Thanks

Yes. I certainly will Bill. I will give this a try in a couple days.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

And I will definitely post my results if I can make this work again. It is fickle. But it did work just fine with the Flex-3000 and K9NES's Software.

Best.
