7000DLE and foot switch in cw mode

Postby DL8LAQ » Tue Jul 24, 2018 7:39 pm

Hi guys,

since a few days I am using a foot switch connected to the PTT IN (RCA jack) on the 7000DLE, but the foot switch doesn't activate the PPT OUT (RCA jack) in "CW MODE". The Orion board in switched to tx, while the external PA is switched to tx by the CW Break-In function. That means the PA goes back to rx in breaks longer than the break-in delay.

Everything works like it should in SSB MODE! The foot switch acivates PTT OUT to the external amp as long as I press the switch.

I tried Orion MKII firmware 2.3 with PowerSDR mRX PS 3.4.9 (Protocol 1) and Orion MKII 1.2 and up with Thetis 2.6.0 (Protocol 2).

Can anyone check that out with his 7000DLE? A friend with a 100D does not have that problem. I still have to check that with a 200D, but this one has to be repaired first.

What does it do when you use the MOX button or the spacebar PTT option?

Using the MOX button the PTT OUT is working like it should do in cw mode, 7000DLE and PA are switching to TX and stay there as long as the button is "klicked". No break-in!

Unfortunately I cannot test a directly connected PTT switch because my radio is in a rack in the basement and my operating position is in a second floor studio. However, I can report that MOX, spacebar and serial port PTT all work fine.

Hello Norbert,

I noticed that a couple of months ago when trying to operate CW with the footswitch. First I was worried that something has been broken until I switched back to phone and found all is working fine. So I tried all possible configurations including the space bar and yes all but the footswitch for some reason doesn´t work in CW at least on the 8000. However the 7000 using the same board so I would expect identical behaviour. Although not satisfying and not seeing a reason why this should have been programmed by purpose I accepted it. So don´t worry..................................

Hello Norbert,

My friend's ANAN-7000DLE MK2 has same symptom. This symptom occurs when the PTT-IN is used for TX.
And this symptom does not occur when TX with MOX button in PowerSDR window.
I think it is necessary to improve the firmware. Because, this symptom occurred in Orion(ANAN-200D) in the past.
At that time, I explained this symptom to Joe K5SO. He improved the firmware Immediately.

The following are release notes for Orion Protocol1 firmware Ver4.9.

>Apr 15 - implemented peak detection for AIN1 and AIN2:
> -added PLL_30MHz/.c0 to provide 30.72 MHz clock for Orion_ADC.v module
> -replaced Orion_ADC.v with version from Orion_MkII_v1.6 firmware
> -replaced Orion_Tx_fifo_ctrl.v with version from Orion_MkII_v1.6 firmware
> -added pk_detect_reset and pk_detect_ack to Orion.v, Orion_ADC, and Orion_Tx_fifo_ctrl
> - added clean_PTT_in to FPGA_PTT to fix bug with external PTT in via pin13 on ANAN-200D accessory jack
> - removed all max_delay and min_delay constraints from Orion.sdc
> - retimed/compiled iteratively until timing closed

How about emailing the firmware developer?
Is developer of Orion Mk2 Joe K5SO, too?
