Anan-8000 no audio

Postby 46flatlander » Sat Dec 19, 2020 1:07 pm

I was using my radio the other night and during a lull in the action I switched my mic.
Bad move? When I went to transmit no audio .Switched back to original mic ,same result?
Switched cables, reload data ,all I get through the radio is loud noise! I also requested
RMA from Apache so I could return radio for repair ,no response.Any thoughts? Thank you

What kind of speakers are you using and how are they attached to the RF unit?

Scott, I think he's referring to transmit audio, not receive audio....his statement was, "When I went to transmit no audio."

Hmmm. Reading is fun-duh-mental, isn't it? :D

Ok, so what kind of microphones are we talking about here?

Dear Scott,Thank you for your interest. The mics involved were RE-320,MK-4 and MXL-R144 all settings on radio were set
properly as far as I can tell. To test I unplugged mic cord from rear port on radio an plugged into my PC and recorded on Audacity all performed perfectly, the cables were configured according to your diagrams on this site. This was a working
radio system! When I record the radio to Audacity all I get is noise, the pan-adapter shows noise also. While reading various articles on this site I saw TPA0202 audio chip as possible culprit Your thoughts ? Thank you

OK, I'm still confused. Do you have no transmit audio, or do you have no receive audio, or both?

How are you monitoring your transmitted signal?

I recorded audio output using Audacity and watched panadapter and saw solid red line across yellow backdrop of signal which is
abnormal. Also tried to contact several people, stated just noise heard. Thanks for your interest,I wont respond for a while I have to leave on an errand. Thanks

So you are using MON and VAC to record transmitted audio using Audacity? How are you getting the audio into Audacity?

As a sanity check, perform the following test:

Transmit into a dummy load by speaking into the mic while the TX multimeter is set to Fwd Pwr. If the mic is working at all you should see some power reported.

Post screen shots of your main console display, Setup > General > H/W Select, and Setup > Transmit.

Post a schematic of the mic cable you are using.

The MK4, if it's a Sennheiser, requires phantom power, and probably more than the tiny voltage the ANAN provides. The other mic's do not.

MK-4 has been my mic for 6 months with Phantom power, when I lost audio I switched to RE320 using proper settings which I enclosed,
I tried the forward power test and had power.

Yes, I realize that, but my complaint is the audio going out over the air is distorted. It sounds like a lot of noise.

You did not show the pinning of the unbalanced end of the cable. Assuming it is correct, then the problem is almost certainly that you don't have your audio chain settings properly adjusted.

Thank you for all your help, you folks don't seem to lean toward a hardware failure,to me the suspicious part is
Ihad the problem present it self after hot switching the mic ?I have snap shots of most of my audio chain ,I will follow the link
you supplied and check my audio settings...again. If that fails I will make another attempt to get a RMA number for repair.
If and when I get a resolution I will post the results.

How accurate is the self test that runs on boot up of the radio?

The is no self-test functionality in the hardware.

If you have good receive audio then it is unlikely the audio CODEC IC is damaged.

Another idea, you might import a previously saved database if you have one, so you'll be back to the audio settings that you know were working at that earlier point in time.

The only other thing I can think of is that somehow, when you changed microphones, you damaged a solder joint on the microphone connector. If, ultimately, if nothing else can be found wrong, it might be worth reflowing those solder connections.

I considered checking that but wouldn't that only effect one of the mic inputs? Any sense in flashing firmware with latest version ?

Flatlander,

I tried to send this to you as a PM but for some reason this forum has never let me send a PM (whenever I try to send something it just sits forever in my Outbox and never actually gets sent).

Here's a link to my latest 7000DLE MKII database:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x58NmI ... sp=sharing

Be advised, my mic input is coming from my PC thru VAC1 so you'll need to change that if your mic plugs directly into your ANAN.

Dear Scott, Do you have access to a USA phone number for Apache? I have sent them 3 emails concerning repair NO response!
I registered at their site ,they were going to send password, hasn't happened.Do you know of any reputable repair service ?
I love the radio and don't want to return to Flex, but this situation is really frustrating. Thanks to you and Mark for all your help

The US service center is Doug, W5WC. I will PM you his email address so that it isn't picked up by spambots.
