Back panel Jack 6,35 L and R on 7000 DLE MK II

Postby Paco » Tue Oct 01, 2019 5:08 pm

Hi Scott and all,

On the 7000 MK II, can you tell me on which pins of the TPA0202 both jacks 6.35 L Spk and R Spk are wired?

A friend who bought this transceiver is having problems.

Thank you

Regards

Hi Paco,

If you had searched the forum for "TPA0202", you would have found this topic:

https://apache-labs.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2744&p=5086

You can find a partial schematic at that link.

To clarify, the 6.35mm (1/4") connectors on the rear for speakers are outputs from the TPA0202 amplifier IC. They are not line level outputs. They are not differential outputs.

The connectors are TRS (stereo) connectors. The wiring of the 6.35mm connectors is:

Tip = speaker voice coil +
Ring = speaker voice coil -
Shield = ground

Under no circumstances should either the Tip or Ring signals be connected to ground, as this could possibly damage the TPA0202.

Because this interface appears on a non-traditional connector for an amplified speaker output, and because it is not well documented anywhere, it certainly can be confusing, so please use some caution in your connections.

Thank you Scott for the details.

Pity that the documentations are not more explicit, it would avoid trouble for some owners.

Hi Scott,

pin 14 (SE / BTL) of TP0202 being ground indicates that it is operating in BTL mode.

Can we say in this case that the outputs are not differential, as you write?

In the ANAN-100 - 100D, is the ]27 3.5MM AUDIO of the schematic that we find on the back panel?

Thank you

Hi Paco,

I found a video on youtube showing wrong factory-cabling on the 7000dleMK2

May be it can help you ?

Hi Paco.

I've never considered the BTL output a "differential" output, however others may differ. Nevertheless, the BTL mode assumes the only load between the two terminals (in this case assigned to the tip and ring of the TRS jack) is a speaker coil.

The audio schematic shown applies to every single model hardware from the Hermes through the latest 7000DLE MKII. Both the CODEC and the TPA0202 are implemented exactly the same way on all of the SDR cards. The only tiny differences are the use of FPGA controlled switching for certain functions vs. jumpers, and wiring harness layout. At the board connector level all is the same.

Wow, great find, Helmut! Another QA failure :( I wonder how many radios are like this? The situation might be similar to the many radios that went out with board jumper set incorrectly for the flash memory chip.

Hi Helmut,

my answer to you is gone ...! Here it is again.

Thanks a lot for your help. Your experience is very interesting ...!

Congratulations for your troubleshooting and thank you for this excellent music. ;)

For Scott : output BTL differential or not ? I know we are talking about the same thing now. Thank you
