Anan100D with HM-219 Icom mic

Postby PaulManc » Sat Feb 12, 2022 9:49 pm

Hi,

This grey 100D Angelia came up at a great price so I jumped in!. I am fortunate to have a 7000dle mk2 which uses a balanced dynamic studio mic and a cable made up from Scott's fab guide here > https://apache-labs.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2790"Better" option.

Previous owner said he used a "mono" plug with a dynamic mic. I wanted to do the bootloader switch mode JP17 so I opened her up to have a look and found JP4 using pins 1&2, Nothing on JP5 and JP6.

I would like to try the HM219 which is a good sounding mic on the Icoms. I planned to make a short lead 8pin>TRS but if someone could check them for me and correct where needed I would really apprecite it.

1) Move jumper JP4 to use pins 2&3 (Tip)
2) Connect Pin1 on Mic to TRS Tip
3) Place Jumper JP5 to use pins 2&3 (Enable Bias Mic on Tip)
4) Place jumper JP6 to use pins 1&2 (PTT on Ring)
5) Connect Pin5 on Mic to TRS Ring
6) Connect Pin7 on Mic to TRS Sleeve

I do have doubts and wonder what powers the electret that usually comes from Pin2 but would this work and how to make it so.

Thanks in advance.

Paul,

Mic bias from the ANAN is approx. 2.5V. See this discussion: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2612

That might be a little low to get full output from the Icom mic, as I believe it is 8V on Icom radios. But worth a try. If it doesn't work, just use the mic from your 7000. In fact it might be less work to build/buy a switchbox.

One detail you missed is that pin 6 needs to go to the shield also. If you look carefully you'll see it's a separate ground in the mic, separate from the mic element ground.

Morning Scott,

Thanks for the reply.....I get the voltage is low ;). I had thought about only moving JP4 to Pins 2&3 Tip and leave JP5&6 off that way it should be exactly the same as my 7000 (as set in Thetis) and any dynamic studio mic should work.

OMG yeah pin 6 PTT ground was omitted. I will add this wire to the sleeve and knock up a cable when my TRS arrive, it might just work fine with less voltage I will update the post in due course.

1) Move jumper JP4 to use pins 2&3 (Tip)
2) Connect Pin1 on Mic to TRS Tip
3) Place Jumper JP5 to use pins 2&3 (Enable Bias Mic on Tip)
4) Place jumper JP6 to use pins 1&2 (PTT on Ring)
5) Connect Pin5 on Mic to TRS Ring
6) Connect Pin6 on Mic to TRS Sleeve
7) Connect Pin7 on Mic to TRS Sleeve

Great Sunday!

It's quite refreshing to see a ham who can read a microphone and radio schematic and put together their own cable :)

You were correct it didnt provide enough drive otherwise the wiring was correct. Shame.

I have the cable made up from this post https://apache-labs.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2790 and I have bought a UMC202HD with a view to sharing the microphone via the PC....see how that goes!

Paul--why did you make that cable? To plug the HM-219 into the Behringer? If so, that's likely to break something, since the Behringer provides the professional audio standard bias of 48V. Also, if you've got a Behringer UMC202HD then you simply want to plug in a nice, professional condenser microphone. There are quite a few under $100 from MXL, Audio Technica, Behringer, and others.

Paul, you might want to check out this "converter" from Amazon. I use it to convert the voltage down to 5.0v on my 202HD in order to use my Heil BM-10 IC boom mic/headset that was designed to be used with Icom radios and it works fine. You just plug it into the 202HD and plug the mic (mini mono plug) into the adapter.

Scott: Apologies, The behringer is nothing to do with the cable and Icom microphone. The patch cable I made was from 219>MIC input 3.5mm. Seperately, Ive bought the UMC202HD to try and use VAC as opposed to hardware inputs into the MIC 3.5mm and this way I can share one microphone to 2+ devices. Most of you guys use this method so will be trying to accomplish the same thing here. However it will be a dynamic microphone as Im not a fan of condensers (My mrs has blue line voice hihi)

Joe: Thanks for the link will take a look at whats involved there, its amazing what adapters are available!. Im actually leaning toward pluging my PR781 into the 202HD and that way I can share the output independently from the PC.....lets see ;)

Good day to all.
