Re: Orion vs Saturn - Pros and Cons of each

Scott, Thank you very much for that information, I had questions but was unsure about asking at this point before the new hardware is out. I knew you could explain very well. This clears up many questions especially with regards to Thetis and both platforms. I see many discussions on Thetis in other...

Orion vs Saturn - Pros and Cons of each

Just wanted some help with differentiations of the two versions, with Thetis, using the raspberry pi 4, remote, latency, etc? Would using the Orion with static ip to a separate network adapter with the 2nd adapter interfaced to the internet help with the remote scenario, etc? Just different observat...

Re: New version of Thetis

It’s the safest thing to do, go into setup in the app removal feature. Afterwards you might check in the “program” folder and be sure that the “openhpsdr” folder is not there, then install the new version. Everything should work afterwards.

Re: 8000DLE air filter

I did a search on Amazon and many options came up, not sure if it’s a 120mm or 140mm but there are both there. Search “computer air filter material”, hope this helps. These are complete frames with material, not very expensive either.

Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more

One item that Steve had was the “master AF” checkbox for the vac audio, I know not a have to have but was nice to have. I did look into crossing this over but I believe there is some differences in the wdsp files that would take some time to work out, at least I gave up after some time. Thanks, Joe ...

Re: Thetis v2.9.0.8 - meters and then some more

Mark, Great question, I apologize if this is the wrong place for this, also. But, both versions, etc. have great updates/upgrades and are very much appreciated. It would be great to get the best of both versions incorporated into one, if possible. Anyway, thanks to all for the work with Thetis. 73’s...

Re: PC Build: 13900K vs 7950X

Tem, I’m running an RX 6700 xt 12gb video card, a deepcool mesh digital case with a deepcool LT 720 cooler. Honestly the 13900 runs at idle around 32 deg C and seldom tops out at around 73 deg C peaks, designed for up to 100 deg C. The 5950x did run warmer but I also had a 240 mm cooler there. I do ...

Re: PC Build: 13900K vs 7950X

As I said, I believe you can’t go wrong either way. For me, I checked out many reviews / performance tests and went with the 13900kf. I have been using this cpu for around six months or so and very pleased with the performance. Either choice you will be very pleased, more than likely the results wil...

Re: PC Build: 13900K vs 7950X

I went through the same decision some time back. I upgraded from a 5950x which I still need to part with. I went with the intel 13900kf as upgraded the video card as well. The 13900 had a bit better performance ratings but not by much, you will want to look at good cooling options. All of these CPU’...

I really appreciate the reading and explanations here on thick and thin clients with sdr in mind. Obviously, I’m interested with regards to the 8000dle as I have one as well. I have a lot invested in my setup and very partial to the 8000 hardware , very good design. One thing that really sticks out ...

Re: Thick vs Thin Client (Pros and Cons)

Thanks, I’ll check it out. I kind of lean more toward the thick client, I like the idea that I can upgrade cpu, gpu; etc. when I want to. The Orion board does have a pcie interface but the fpga programming is the culprit. Just thoughts.

Thanks,
Joe

Re: Understanding G7KLJ 2.9.0.11 release

I had the exact same error with vac not seeing my audio interface correctly, I believe G7KLJ’s software has the alert of vac error. When I started up the setup form would come up at first and the error would show. Hope you get it straight, I really like the new Thetis, works great here. 73’s Joe WD5Y

Re: Understanding G7KLJ 2.9.0.11 release

I had that error after a windows update, the update had scrambled my audio (interface) from being recognized properly. In my case, I went into to windows audio setup and reset everything. This just happened two days ago after win update. Hope this helps.

Re: Orion Board - PCIE Interface

I understand that the altera firmware reconfigure would be quite a task, but if there was a way to use the xylinx code as a basis for that, who knows. I'm really hooked on my 8000dle, I like the case, heatsink, etc. Would be great to have a road for upgrade potential, also good for all of the other ...

I thought maybe that was the original purpose for the pcie on Orion but it sounds like the altera programming would be the bottleneck. Anyway, there could be a possibility out there. Thanks so much for your reply.

Orion Board - PCIE Interface

Well, I going to ask anyway. Is the pcie connector on the Orion board basically the same as on the new Saturn board used for an interface? The raspberry pi 4 with the I/O board option uses pcie as well. I know the fpga programming is a hurdle but the new Saturn is a future (programming) addition too...

Re: Saturn: A New Apache Labs SDR Transceiver (ANAN-G2)

I agree Mark, what we have now is more choices. The Saturn looks like it supplies the ability for an independent setup with an option for Ethernet feed through for Thetis, etc., not sure if this is where some latency may be affected? I prefer a pc tethered to the sdr but that’s my choice, I run a 80...

I have been following the postings and very promising for sure. Re: Motu M2 Win 11 Buffer Size

I have the motu m4 and this happens as well. It must be something going on with the auto sync function. I run at 192,000 sample rate and 64 buffer but when Thetis starts (vac), the m4 ratchets up on step in buffer size. I just run it that way as all seems to work fine.
