ARRL FMT and Spec Lab
The ARRL Frequency Measuring Test is coming up, and I'd like to use my 200D for that. I have Spec Lab installed, though I don't know a lot about it. I tuned to WWV and fed VAC2 into it. The little peak reading box on the left gave a changing reading that was generally a few hundredths of a hertz awa...

What form is IQ VAC?
When I output the audio through M-VAC, it is, I think, a AM modulated and digitally sampled waveform. If I click Direct IQ output to VAC, what form does the data take?

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?
After days of effort, I got ntp to work with the GPSDO. I still can't get PPS to work, but maybe it doesn't matter: the GPS shows delay of zero, offset under one, and jitter also under one, after running a few minutes. This is not something I would recommend to the faint-hearted, though. Buck ko0y

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?
If you can't read DCD, then it sounds like a problem with either the USB adapter hardware, driver, or both. Time for a new one! I use a Moxa N-port serial to Ethernet device server and can see my serial devices from any computer on the network (with properly set up drivers, of course). There are us...

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?
I just checked the serial port using: http://www.satsignal.eu/software/net.htm#SerialPortLEDs and confirmed a valid 1 PPS signal on the CTS pin. It would be a simple matter to move that over to the DCD pin to use with the above referenced NTP software. Scott/w-u-2-o One would think so, however... I...

3 milliHertz? Dude, I don't know how anyone is going to understand you when you are so far off frequency! ;) Did you get the Chinese unit with the Russian OXCO? Re: GPSDO Tutorial?
I decided after all to get one of the Chinese units from ebay, and it seems to work well. I test it by zooming in on WWV and centering the carrier on the panadapter, and 3 mHz was what I measured. If there is a better way, I would like to know of it. I think that what I call the "crazy mouse&qu...

Re: Which DAC?
Gary, if you set 48K to 48K on the M-VAC control panel for both cables it won't let any client program set another rate. It may give an error if any tries it, I don't know about that. I think, though Scott may correct me on this, that the clicking is more likely a function of buffer and latency sett...

Re: Which DAC?
Note also that it is very important to go into your Windows Sound Control panel and explicitly set all M-VAC cables to operate at 48KHz, both record and playback, to prevent conversions from happening. This is because most software will automatically conform to the sample rate it sees set for the M...

Which DAC?
I know that when I take audio from the front panel or rear port of my 200D, that I'm using the DAC built into the radio's board. (Incidentally, is there any way to test the accuracy of this DAC, and where is the sample rate set?) If I'm using VAC, I know it uses the DAC of the interface I point Setu...

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?
Good points. I have a GPS chip with antenna that I can get NMEA and PPS from if I want those. The adjustable frequency output of the Bodnar should be very useful to test links in the audio chain. Incidentally, how's it going with the block diagram for the Anan receive path? The one you made for the ...

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?
Oh, I have lots of adapters lying around! I decided on the Bodnar unit because it has two outputs. One I'll set at 10 MHz for the radio and the other in audio frequency to calibrate sound devices. I am wondering about the power level I should put into the 200D, however. It can be adjusted from 7.7 d...

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?
Thanks, Scott. The digital mode I use most is quite demanding, and I thought GPS sync might help. I'm going to give it a try, either with an ebay unit, or the more expensive one from Leo Bodnar.

GPSDO Tutorial?
I have a rev. 24 200D, thinking (again) about getting a Bodnar GPSDO. I've seen some scattered info on connecting this, but is there a tutorial or check list anywhere? Or will the radio just automatically use the external reference when it is connected to the 10 MHz port?

Scott, I recently got access to MATLAB, and it has a Simulink block that implements a volume limiter. I was also ab...

Re: Ethernet switch problem
1. PC is using DHCP, no static IP there. 2. That is the version I have, and I don't know why it crashes. Read IP would return the 167 address initially used by the radio, but Write IP would crash the program. 3. Bootloader wrote all zeros to the radio and did not return any error message. But PowerS...

Re: Ethernet switch problem
Thanks for the very detailed response. I got it to work, and this is how: 1. Leave the PC ethernet using DHCP. Setting a static IP there doesn't work. The router reserves an address for it. 2. I have version 2.04.10 of the programmer, and that will update firmware, but it doesn't work for setting IP...

Ethernet switch problem
I have been running my 200D plugged directly into the PC, with the PC having a wifi connection to the router. I decided to try an ethernet switch since I may want to use a Pi console, but cannot get it to work. It's a tp-link 8-port Gigabit switch. When I plug the PC and 200D into the switch, but wi...

Re: Way to limit AF?
Thanks, Scott. Yes, we use USB, generally near 60 meters. I use med AGC on the voice side and fast on the digital side. There's already 20 dB set because I have a preamp at the antenna. But there is, naturally, a huge difference between the station in Fountain and one in Montana. Some kind of limite...

Way to limit AF?
I work a net that covers a large region and whose stations therefore vary widely in volume in my ear. I'm using virtual audio through a Behringer interface. Is there a way to limit the volume? I've tried various combinations of AF and AGC threshold, to no joy. Thanks for any pointers.

Re: Rear port of 200D
Thanks for the prompt reply. One more (equally simple, I hope) question. Does the software, at any point on the audio chain whether to jack or VAC, make use of the host PC's sound card, or only the ADC/DAC converters within the Anan?

The flow chart of the TX chain is very helpful. I will print it for my reference notebook. Could we get a similar one for the RX chain, please? In particular, I'd like to see where virtual differs from panel Jacks.

CAT and COM problems with digital software
I've had some problems today with virtual ports. I've got them working again, but when the Anan starts, it complains that it cannot open COM5 (used for PTT), then it works anyway. If I disable COM5, it complains about COM0, instead! Worse, if I start the radio before the digital software, it complai...

AGC settings for M110A?
My STANAG primer for M110A says that AGC should be set at less than 10 ms in desensitization and less than 25 ms in resensitization. They were not, I assume, thinking of SDR when that was written. I have been using AGC set to Fast, but I wonder if there are settings in custom AGC that would do bette...

Matlab?
I recently bought a copy of Matlab, which I intend to use to examine digital signals. I found some material on github written for CAT control and sound input/output for the Flex 6000 series, and it may be adaptable for the Anan. Before I attempt that, I wonder if anyone here has worked on interfacin...
