Re: QSK with Thetis

Paul: Not sure where you're coming from, I think you think I'm using VAC?! As mentioned I'm not using any form of VAC. This is strictly the rig's hardware/FPGA, nothing external to it. And as mentioned when I first tried it it worked superbly - or at least I believe it did - I sent (only) 'v' a few ...

Re: QSK with Thetis

Regarding QSK using Thetis. I'm new to Thetis having just installed it for the first time recently - I'm dumbfounded by it, it is absolutely incredible, like a new radio. My fears, or desire to have a reliable radio (I had been using 3.4.9 which worked extremely well re reliability) were unfounded. ...

Re: Thetis v2.9.0 - Updates and Issues

did you try this? There is an graphics update issue regarding the green thumb grip that is on my list that I haven't looked at yet, but it changes state most of the time. Right click anywhere on the main UI agc slider should do it. R. It works as you describe Richie. But, maybe, I think that Gary w...

Re: SPE Expert Amp Interfacing

The serial interface on my Expert 2K-FA, circa 2011, was as easy as it can get. Very straightforward. The interface on the KPA1500 - not well done. For the cost of 3 transistors to provide RS232 levels instead of TTL they could have made it more universal. I built an external box for this. I know th...

Re: Thetis v2.9.0 - Updates and Issues

Good day Richie, Yes - it seemed 'natural' to me that it would work that way - and I did try it but it didn't work at the time. I made a note of it and moved on... possibly I screwed up in the 'doing' ... I just tried it now and indeed - it works great! THANKS!

Re: CESSB & COMP--obsolete or not?

Interesting .... well I had been getting their updates on a daily basis and when first released there was a lot of hoopla on CESSB. The (Elecraft) claimed "no distortion with as much as 8 db increase in average power" was talked about extensively ... and of course, owners would say "i...

Re: Thetis v2.9.0 - Updates and Issues

Regarding the auto AGC level - another suggestion. Keep functionality as is - if I move the AGC manually it turns it off - but allow me to right click over the "knob" on the slider to set it back to AUTO again and not have to go to SETUP etc. The "light" on the knob completely ai...

Re: Thetis v2.9.0 - Updates and Issues

Since it was mentioned here: what is "wrong" with CESSB? I don't use it because of its bad rep published here - but the guys at Elecraft, having just added it to the K4, are raving about its capabilities! They're saying it is a tremendous increase in average power, as much as 8 db, AND no ...

Re: Installing Thetis for the first time

Latest Thetis installed - all is well so far. Looks great! Running well. I'll run this for a couple weeks and then jump to Prot2. Since I've no desire to use more than 192Khz I assume the only other benefit is that it will use the 1G ethernet - correct? Puresignal, which was one of my hesitations fo...

Scott, You are absolutely right - and my apologies. Re: Preamp bad on RX2?

Scott - ok, that makes even more sense. If I'm not changing the actual gain but its relative value used in setting the S Meter response, I believe that is correctly stated, this still doesn't explain why the same actions on RX1 do not reflect the same response when done on RX2. THAT was my issue/que...

Re: Installing Thetis for the first time

Thanks - so I assume the bits at the bottom will make it necessary to backup. Just changing the install path isn't going to negate the fact that 3.4.9 also uses that folder for those files.

Installing Thetis for the first time

Questions: 1) can Thetis be installed into a different folder system so that I can keep my existing 3.4.9 system as is? 2) if not, the oft mentioned "backup everything" ... is it all contained in one top level folder, that I can just rename as "_PSDR" or somesuch and then install...

I've seen it on in the middle of the night - I've seen it turn off, the last time around 8PM and stay off until about 5 or so the next day.... when it is on it will cycle from on to off. Ways to record WF for up to 24 hours

I'm looking for a way to record noise on a band. This is because I have a horrendous noise source that isn't there always. I suspect it is a pot farm or something else illegal ... hoping not the case. It does sound like PL noise and when on it completely wipes out 160 - 6M in that direction. But it ...

Hey Ron, Possible you are running JTDX? If so it might be it is causing the shift. When I go SPLIT and I have it on it returns the freq back to transmit. I have to remember to close JT when going split.

Re: Thetis v2.8.11 - UPDATES and current issues

Richie, Sorry - I was speaking specifically about the OR and not the AND. The AND says PS has to be off for some value to be imposed if on CW. Ideally one shouldn't have to mess with the PS button/function when changing modes. Even better I'd think it correct to just auto turn off PS if on any mode ...

Re: Transmit spectrum bad behavior

Mike, I see this on PSDR 3.4.9 so it's something that has been there. It generally is associated or at least exacerbated by changing the power while transmitting causing PureSignal to have to go look for a different solution. It generally is stable once a power level is set - but can take several se...

@Paul, W9AC, thanks for that Paul. Yes I have seen where the 31 is applied when qsk is switched on, and then reverted when switched off, tagged as change [W2PA_21a] in the code. at the moment since v2.8.8 it is : if PS-A is off OR (CWL or CWR) then att = 31 Richie. Re: Unstable, wide, nasty spur

It's simply removing a SM resistor - a good soldering pencil should do the trick. I do this as needed on the product that I sell. First, use some 0.025 solder to flow into the joint - then just hit it back and forth and pop it off. I'll take a look at doing this as I have those nasty spurs as well. ...

Ron,

I resorted to always using the foot switch to send CW when operating 80/160 w/ a RX antenna. I have the same issue re SWR and it would also occasionally trip out the amp - it would trip on "out of band".

I'll give your fix a try - see what I find as a 2nd data point.

I'm curious - why would you want to match what is known to be inaccurate - i.e. not correct? The factory setting was I'm sure very close to correct from the get-go. It is calibrated such that S9 = -73 dbm. Note all other manufacturers - ok, the Japanese, match this as well as seen in their reviews i...
