Re: GPU Questions

Gary, I will have my new DP cables Thursday so that will tell the tale as to whether I have a cable issue or not. I'll let you know. Unfortunately, my issue is not solving itself. Hopefully, yours stays fixed!

Re: GPU Questions

Gary, glad you got your answers from Scott. Sorry I did not see the post until just now. Only one thing to add: I would think you should be able to disable the onboard GPU in the MB BIOS. While it would not be doing anything without monitors plugged in, it is still unnecessarily assigned resources b...

Re: New PC Build: now UPDATED with overclocking performance

To follow up: I checked and found that my DP cables are StarTech DISPLPORT15L. They are rated for DP 1.2 but the reviews on this cable are pretty bad, many indicating a "flicker" problem, which may be the same as the random, periodic black screen issue I saw at DP 1.2. Looks like I have a ...

Re: New PC Build: now UPDATED with overclocking performance

Gary, glad it stopped for you and hopefully it stays that way. In my case, all I did was move the computer from one rack to another. I extended the DP cables but it also went black when I did not use the extensions. There is nothing in that action which should have caused the black screens but it di...

Re: New PC Build: now UPDATED with overclocking performance

Very nice, Scott. I love the colors, subdued lighting and overall clean look. 4k monitors are the bomb, particularly the Dells. I recently did what I thought was a small rebuild; really a relocation of the main computer and addition of a solid state amp. I moved the computer to the small (audio) rac...

Yep, they are fixing it as we speak. Also happens when you try to enter a number in RIT or XIT.

I had the usual audio pops and drops in VAC which was more-or-less fully resolved when I did a new computer build. ...

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?

OK, I got this baby hooked up and it seems to work pretty good. Scott, good to hear. Not sure what I'm going to do here yet but I did note that the BG7TBL distribution amps can be way out on delivery times. I do have a t-connector so I will try that first, of course, but don't expect it will work a...

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?

I've actually ordered a 3dB 0 deg. hybrid splitter from Mini Circuits and we'll see if it works.

Scott, let me know what model you ordered and how it works. Some of these are very expensive compared to a distribution amplifier, so I'm guessing I have not found what you ordered.

Thanks Jay. That's a nice solution. However, it looks like I only need two outputs, not three. So, I just ordered a t-connector for a few bucks. We'll see if works.

Re: GPSDO Tutorial?

I received my BG7TBL unit today with a Bliley unit and am delighted to report a near perfect, effortless calibration. WWV at 10 mHz shows a completely centered meatball on Phase 2 in the panadapter with no correction dialed in. I could never accomplish that with a manual calibration. I have three de...

Re: PowerSDR mRX PS 3.4.6 Released

I can confirm these findings with two additions:

1. Waterfall high/low levels and spectrum grid levels also changed.
2. I am using the resampler version of 3.4.2, not 3.4.6.

So, it would seem that this glitch may not be new.

I also noted, and reported, a similar fan noise in my 8000. followed by a single recent high temp fault. I am currently uncertain that my fan is working at all and plan to get inside and do some testing to see if the fan has failed or whether the controller has failed.

I use an Astron RM-50M and do occasionally run my 8000 barefoot full power in SSB along with a fair amount of peripheral 12 vdc stuff. The needle hardly moves past 25 amps on peak. At amp drive levels, the needle hardly moves. You should be just fine unless you plan to run full power, barefoot conti...

Fred, I run Win 10 and can't even find Win Media Player. You may be using an earlier version of Windows. I use VLC Media Player and it plays the files just fine. I also use Audacity to convert the .wav files to .mp3 which compresses and reduces the files to a fraction of their size. Give those progr...

Ok, missed the part about needing to be in DSB. However, I got the exact same result using phase and DSB as I did using USB and Phase 2 - just that the display looked somewhat different. Very nice little trick.

Scott, I assume you mean Phase 2? Wow, I was very close. At 0.99999960, it barely moves counterclockwise. At 0.99999959, it reverses and is noticeably faster. So, my ear did a decent enough job.

Thanks for the thoughts. It is difference in the magnetic and electric components of a signal that gives me pause on this antenna. Basically, an i7 would be better for gaming while a Xeon would be better for server applications where you have to move a lot of data at once. There is a lot you can do with an i7 that you can't do with a Xeon. For instance, overclocking is limited (and difficult) with a Xeon and it can't use high s...
