Re: ANAN-7000DLE MKII Black Edition and KPA1500

Actually looking further - indeed the RXD input is defined as max min of ±3V .... however the TXD output is defined as max min of ±5V. This is to ensure there is a margin on the input .... and one would be prudent to design around min of 5V. However this conversation does correlate with the fact tha...

Re: ANAN-7000DLE MKII Black Edition and KPA1500

Note: If I'm not mistaken (and now I'm treading lightly) - and I'm not about to take apart what I built up (and which is nicely in a small metal box) the signals are indeed TTL ... that means nominal 5V high, 0V low. THAT is not RS232. And because they are TTL you will need to invert these (RS232 dr...

Re: ANAN-7000DLE MKII Black Edition and KPA1500

Mike, I stand corrected.... I've been using RS232 for decades ... and it has always been minimum 5V .... but apparently not! It depends on where you get that reference. I can see references to +/- 5V still.... but you've enlightened me.

thanks!

Re: ANAN-7000DLE MKII Black Edition and KPA1500

the definition of RS232 is a minimum voltage of 5V (nominal ±9V) ....TTL level is not RS232. It might work - I suspect it wouldn't, but the margins would be woefully small and data errors due to this could cause false band changes and potentially - for a very expensive "fix" - not so pleas...

Re: ANAN-7000DLE MKII Black Edition and KPA1500

Here's the issue .... there is no instantiation of a user available serial port through the KPA1500 USB line! REALLY bad design forethought in my humble opinion. Instead I used the CI-V port and designed/added some level translating transistors to make a proper RS232 serial compatible port - run tha...

Re: Tune Button

Scott, I read that you had contacted the programmer/owner of DDUtil and asked to add 60M to a PTT function - and he refused due to it being limited to 100W.... you might counter with the fact that it is limited to 100W ERP! That means for example if you run a vertical you can legally run 300W and st...

Re: Thetis DRIVE CONTROL IN TRANSVERTER MODE

Tony, So are you using the XVTR TX out jack and if so have you measured the Pout and its 'step size'? I ask because I'm considering doing 23cm EME and would have a transverter of course to do that. I need to know what to expect from that Orion MKII XVTR TX output jack. [rig is 8000 but of course sam...

Re: 7000DLE MKII I7 diversity issues

Just as a note - this doesn't sound like software .... this sounds like maybe a bad shield connection on one of your antennas. The antenna then becomes single-ended and noise can be introduced. Check connections on both antennas. [one can check this out by unscrewing the 'ring' of a PL259 and pullin...

23cm transverter to 8000DLE

So ... not seeing a whole lot of discussion here on how to connect a transverter let alone if it can be done properly. I have an 8000DLE and I was looking at adding 23cm EME using a Q5 transverter. I see the TX out jack for a transverter but looking through the 8K manual I don't see any info on what...

Re: RX Level Calibration

PS: re calibration. The out of the box performance is extremely good and unless you're using the radio to do absolute measurements calibration isn't strictly necessary. I checked it as I had a source (Elecraft XG3) and if I recall it was off by 1 db at S9. Note that is the only thing that you calibr...

Re: RX Level Calibration

Well keep it in mind John, Unfortunately since resetting the DB would also set the ATT to 0 we don't know! .... the fact that only one band was showing it says you might have turned it on and forgot about it ...

just a thought.

Re: RX Level Calibration

I will take a guess as to what you are seeing: you have some level of ATT selected on 40M! Just set it to 0 and you'll be back where you 'need' to be. Nothing else needed.

this assumes your natural noise level is at that level ... in which case it is a moot point.

Re: ANAN-7000DLE MkII Ethernet failure - again

I have to say as a design engineer this sounds like a "myth" ... timing issues based on what would essentially be a small difference in temperature. Sounds more like there is something that is not right in the interface and its protocol or the chip is not designed to do what is being asked...

It is unfortunate but the DCE vs. DTE format is not always followed on devices. [these tests are done with the amp not connected to anything on the RS232 lines] So ... It's easy to determine which is which - TX vs RX.... use a meter - assuming you know which pin is ground (test to chassis if you don...

I've had no issues with windows updates until very recently when it caused the audio, using VAC for FT8 digital mode, to be distorted. Rubern, Agreed. They DO update quite often. It's more a pain to get it 'in' than anything else. Until this one mentioned at the start of this thread I've never had a problem and reinstalling the VAC program solved this problem so not bad overall. I don't think delaying it helps - ultimately if you a...

I never had an issue running the 8000 at 60 - 70W on FT8. Didn't get very warm at all. But again: you've not addressed my comment - this looks to have no relationship with temperature - or am I missing something? It looks like you have a nearby noise source in one shot (the -67) and that noise sourc...

I'm confused why you went to suggesting a fuse on this? It looks to me like you have TERRIBLE noise at your location and it simply went away! -101 is a little bit high for me here with a 2.4Khz passband ... and -67 is terrible noise - but it appears like I'm seeing the same signal and not seeing the...

Seems a reasonable conclusion you've come to ... I've not bothered with the resampler for a long long time. Just don't mess with it. Seems almost a solution looking for a problem. Since perturbations in CPU action elsewhere cause clicks and jumps in the TX signal - and since these also induce the re...
