Carl,
Please forgive my ignorance - are you saying two things here? For "dedicated Ethernet port" do you mean an Ethernet card to a PC, not using the built in Ethernet?
And "port" ... do you mean not using DHCP vs static IP?
or
?

Need a different profile method re DIG mode/60M
Here's the issue... there is a, one, TX profile for DIG mode. I only use FT8 (and now FT4) so for the most part that isn't a problem - and with most stations it won't be a problem. But IF one wants to operate on 60M it IS a problem! On 60M because of the restricted 'window width' I have to either ha...

Re: New PC for Anan Suggestion
An i7-7700 should be more than enough! I was getting usage in the 12 - 16% range using an i5 before going to my current i7-8770 which now routinely is in the 5 - 7% range... the one thing that I found made a substantial difference was going to a sample rate of 192Khz as opposed to what at the time I...

Re: Alex and Thetis
Scott,
I know you have the 8000 ... doesn't it have preselectors on each RX? You made the comment if you are using both RX1 and 2 you leave Alex off - but if indeed there are independent preselectors this would not be necessary - what am I missing?

Re: 2018 QST Review ANAN-8000DLE
very interesting! The values on the ANAN become worse when going from TX to RX (peak hold mode). If you stay on TX the values are better by approx. 10 dB on the ANAN. I assume this has to do with the automatic attenuator changing the setting when going from TX to RX. what do you mean by this? I don'...

yes - although I don't think I have "peak hold" .... I don't remember a peak hold. NOTE however I routinely see -60 when using it on SSB. I have my TX monitor display set to +10 and -70 and that allows me to see the start of the shoulders at ~-60 and the peak is at the top of the 'grid str...

Brent, If you're saying the results were not indicative of the claims I'd agree... but they in fact DID report the results THEY got. Re: New Protocol 2 Firmware Released
Mike, I've seen this more than once and it is REAL - being transmitted as VERY broad noise! It appears to be PureSignal losing its settings and having to re-calibrate or sync or whatever one would call it ... now if, rather WHEN I see it I immediately stop transmitting, go off the side where there i...

Re: 2018 QST Review ANAN-8000DLE
I see -60 a good bit of the time ... I've seen as good as -65. Probably band dependent (mostly due to the contributions of the amp more than likely) ... but generally it is around -60.

Just as a note re this subject: there was a follow up article which stated they sent the unit in to Doug and he found some caps that were wrong ... A few additional notes : No, my RX AF is not anywhere near 100! It is typically in the 30's! -second - indeed I do acknowledge that 40 - 50 db above is far far too high (too low a gain) ... and you WILL lose signals because of it ... -three: when I said "30 or 40" I was referring to the au...

Wow Scott.... seems based on your assessment I'm way off ... I run, HAVE TO RUN my VAC RX gain at -25. And doesn't the RX AF depend on the Master setting as well? I ask only because I have no problem getting decodes in the -20 through -23 range and occasionally a -24 (although FT8 is speced at I bel...

Re: Best AGC for digital modes?
AGC gain: the only caveat is the gain line shouldn't be set too high (on the screen, low value). If grossly high you will get vertical lines printing on the WSJT waterfall ... with a bit less than that you can miss weaker stations... I set the line just above the noise level (15 - 20 db above it) AG...

There is one thing - Scott may consider this to be off topic for this sub-forum (and move it?) ... but I throw it out there. I don't think this has anything to do with what you are seeing (nor Affinity, your issue sounds more fundamental and related to the VAC channels/setup) ... I know there is a ....

Re: ANAN-200D and WSJT-X/FT8 TX tone on waterfall display mushrooms
Dick (and others interested in this thread), I had suggested way back when in this thread that setting the affinity to 1 core helped - and it does. There is absolutely no uncertainty in this. However I've since found that one core can cause the rig to just quit. So I've gone to 3 (out of 12) cores. ...

Re: Transmit signal levels on panadapter
Just a quick note - personal settings and suggestions for TX Panadapter settings: Max: 10, Min -70, STEP 5 I believe at least at full power using a coupler the signal on TX is referenced to 0 dbm - this takes that in to account: Using a value of 10 for the top means that the top of the signal is at ...

just a quick note re personal settings: -I find that a FPS of 30 shows no real difference visually compared to 60... and would rather not use up CPU time for what seems to be no real advantage... -I don't use the waterfall to 'decode' anything so I find a slower setting is more useful - I use it to ...

Yes - very cool. I played with it on FT8 ... that 'interferer' that i have I think you'd agree is a nasty one. I'd love to find out what is causing it - Plasma TV, grow lights ... haven't a clue ... One other comment: just to be clear - this feature is only "local" in nature - in 2 ways: 1) it acts on local noise, not sky wave and 2) frequency-wise it is somewhat narrow in response so one has to optimize at a particular frequency (the one of interest)... I don't know that it is overly...

I've not had a chance to look in to how to do it ... besides the fact that there is no audio... so I'll work on getting something better. sorry - misspoke there - the noise floor does not go down by 24db ... that nasty noise signal PEAK goes from -90 down to the (new) noise floor at 0-114db. yes indeed I've seen the MANY threads for Chrome ... cool on the automation. That sounds promising. Scott, thanks for the detail on the switch. It's not a router - it is just a switch (there is a router on/from the incoming Spectrum cable line though). Rob, Just to fill in - I'm using Eugene's VAC for FT8 and RTTY only. Voice is direct to the radio. Just as an FYI and pertinent to the mention of the resampler to 'correct' things. I have tried ad nauseum to get the resampler going ... also my TX waveform was often very poor due to dropouts (clicks etc). I found setting the affinity to only 2 cores improves this noticeably but it did not help wit...
