Re: Best AGC for digital modes?
Wow Scott.... seems based on your assessment I'm way off ... I run, HAVE TO RUN my VAC RX gain at -25. And doesn't the RX AF depend on the Master setting as well? I ask only because I have no problem getting decodes in the -20 through -23 range and occasionally a -24 (although FT8 is speced at I bel...

Re: Best AGC for digital modes?
AGC gain: the only caveat is the gain line shouldn't be set too high (on the screen, low value). If grossly high you will get vertical lines printing on the WSJT waterfall ... with a bit less than that you can miss weaker stations... I set the line just above the noise level (15 - 20 db above it) AG...

Re: ANAN-200D and WSJT-X/FT8 TX tone on waterfall display mushrooms
There is one thing - Scott may consider this to be off topic for this sub-forum (and move it?) ... but I throw it out there. I don't think this has anything to do with what you are seeing (nor Affinity, your issue sounds more fundamental and related to the VAC channels/setup) ... I know there is a ....

Re: ANAN-200D and WSJT-X/FT8 TX tone on waterfall display mushrooms
Dick (and others interested in this thread), I had suggested way back when in this thread that setting the affinity to 1 core helped - and it does. There is absolutely no uncertainty in this. However I've since found that one core can cause the rig to just quit. So I've gone to 3 (out of 12) cores. ...

Re: Transmit signal levels on panadapter
Just a quick note - personal settings and suggestions for TX Panadapter settings: Max: 10, Min -70, STEP 5 I believe at least at full power using a coupler the signal on TX is referenced to 0 dbm - this takes that in to account: Using a value of 10 for the top means that the top of the signal is at ...

Re: Panadapter & waterfall settings
just a quick note re personal settings: -I find that a FPS of 30 shows no real difference visually compared to 60... and would rather not use up CPU time for what seems to be no real advantage... -I don't use the waterfall to 'decode' anything so I find a slower setting is more useful - I use it to ...

Scott ... indeed nice job on the labeling - how'd you do it? I have a Dymo machine here that does the sticky paper labels ... worked for a while on my CMD2A but now some are peeling off... would love to know which tool and tape you used (it appears to be a clear background)

Re: Diversity Operations
Yes - very cool. I played with it on FT8 ... that 'interferer' that i have I think you'd agree is a nasty one. I'd love to find out what is causing it - Plasma TV, grow lights ... haven't a clue ... It is worst on 15 and in that direction covers the whole band with the repetitive nature seen there (...

Re: Diversity Operations
One other comment: just to be clear - this feature is only "local" in nature - in 2 ways: 1) it acts on local noise, not sky wave and 2) frequency-wise it is somewhat narrow in response so one has to optimize at a particular frequency (the one of interest)... I don't know that it is overly...

Re: Diversity Operations
I've not had a chance to look in to how to do it ... besides the fact that there is no audio... so I'll work on getting something better. One reason why I did this is because the only video (on UT) that shows coherent beamforming doesn't show it WITH a signal! So I for one was left asking : but how ...

Re: Diversity Operations
sorry - misspoke there - the noise floor does not go down by 24db ... that nasty noise signal PEAK goes from -90 down to the (new) noise floor at 0-114db. Since these interference signals repeat and are broad the overall noise floor does go down a decent amount ... looking at the video it changes ab...

It's been awhile since I last visited this particular subforum ... I have these nasty signals on 15 towards the west making difficult copy at time...

Re: Audio glitches: why do they occur?
yes indeed I've seen the MANY threads for Chrome ... cool on the automation. That sounds promising. It would be nice if Windows provided a way to contain a program to X number of threads - it only ... wouldn't think this would be onerous for them but obviously don't know the knock-on effects. Re: Audio glitches: why do they occur?
Scott, thanks for the detail on the switch. It's not a router - it is just a switch (there is a router on/from the incoming Spectrum cable line though). At least I think this is correct... but I believe a moot point. As for Chrome. I found that Chrome produced much less 'activity' re glitches on the...

Re: Audio glitches: why do they occur?
Rob, Just to fill in - I'm using Eugene's VAC for FT8 and RTTY only. Voice is direct to the radio. I had tried running Teamviewer to watch for new ones on FT8 while working but that caused glitches when it was running and I was actually working people. So I removed the program. This is a reasonably ...

Re: Audio glitches: why do they occur?
Just as an FYI and pertinent to the mention of the resampler to 'correct' things. I have tried ad nauseum to get the resampler going ... also my TX waveform was often very poor due to dropouts (clicks etc). I found setting the affinity to only 2 cores improves this noticeably but it did not help wit...

Scott,
Forgive me if this is not posted in the right place ... I think it is correct.
So why is it when I tune outside a ham band the panadapter changes drastically? How do I continue to tune outside the ham band as if nothing changed? I SHOULD be able to do that ...

Re: Linear Amplifier ALC interfacing
Same response as before Scott..... operator never doing something stupid like driving an external amplifier with 100W. If you have an amplifier with no protection against gross over-drive it would be possible, without ALC, to make a stupid and potentially costly error. As I've explained ad nauseum t...

Re: Calibration Tab 7000DLE
I used an XG3 signal source. Easily done when using it. I found as Scott pointed out very little difference - for the majority of users I'd suggest leaving it alone as its close enough - surely much better than other radios! (my Ftdx5000 I use to own literally changed 2 S units with 2 db change in s...

Re: My Diveristy Adventures
Scott will I'm sure reply about using the system in general. I have never been able to get diversity to work myself but that is more because the antenna selection is critical. I've not had a reference antenna that picked up the noise as loud or louder and still picked up some of the signal. So I end...

Re: ANAN-100 low 10/12m output with LPF enabled.
Ed, Just an FYI - I had reported a good bit ago, maybe 6 months, that I had issues with PS working on 6 meters. Turns out I had to have ALEX off. There was a bug, at least for the 8000, that Doug confirmed in testing. I don't know if anything ever came of it but I've run with ALEX turned off from th...

Re: ANAN-8000 & PowerSDR - some notes, some questions
just to be clear the one thing the "Auto" doesn't handle for the waterfall is the width of the display. That would be nice if it automatically took that in to account. As it is now when I go to CW on a noisier band like 40 it is mostly white (bright) ...

Re: ANAN-8000 & PowerSDR - some notes, some questions
NB button on TX ... that was one of my findings and subsequent request, to turn off NB(1 or 2) on TX. The issue is, or was, with it on the TX pan jumps all over the place - using DUP(lex) of course. It DOES serve a purpose turning it off and is benign other than making the pan work properly! Waterfa...

Re timing - I had an issue where my RX preamp feeding in to ANT3, the transistor blew - and I was getting frequent "HIGH SWR" warnings. I worked with Doug - well Doug did the testing/work and I just tried his results... anyway he found, using a scope on an 8000, that I believe it was Key D...

Harry, I'm using the Behringer Command 2A - love it ....
