Re: Quick record on AM

I would however suggest that there isn't anything that mentions the use of QUICK REC/PLAY and just looking at the results on the pan during play - and in so doing not to expect this to be 'meaningful' ... I've had the radio operational since May or early June and have tried to get this 'resolved' ov...

Re: Quick record on AM

Rob, THANK YOU SIR!! As noted I've never actually tried it since listening to it and seeing what is displayed is discombobulating at best ... but I tried just hitting MOX and PLAY and IT WORKS! (It STILL sounds loud but I suspect it is actually as loud as when it was recorded) ... I recorded someone...

Re: Quick record on AM

Rob, Well that's exactly how I thought it would - should work ... are you saying that listening to it, i.e hitting "PLAY" without being in TX is not what it is suppose to support? As that is all I've ever done. After hearing what it does - plays back at a very high volume, I've always been...

Re: Pure Signal Issue

just a precaution - it might not effect what you're doing but I noticed a couple things: 1) I know that if you have some (all?) of the noise abatement stuff on the panadapter will be effected on transmit. Mostly I notice that if NB2 is on that the xmit waveform gets bounced around instead of being s...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

You know Keith I do find at times the NB2 doesn't do anything - so obviously the algorithm is designed for a specific noise profile ... most of the time it does work and when so it works extremely well - as mentioned previously I've seen a 12 db decrease in the noise floor on 6 and 10 meters. I play...

Re: ADC1 Overload

Mike, you mention an antenna connected to ADC2. Are you sure its ADC1 and not 2 that is showing the overload?! If you have ADC2 set so that its not grounded on TX it can be overloaded. Note I don't think there's anything "special" about DIG mode re ADC1 overload. Its transmit period that w...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

Agreed - it doesn't sound a whole lot different than NR2 when used with a loud signal .... note that at least for my analysis I'm strictly speaking of noise reduction in an effort to increase the S/N on a WEAK signal ... I don't really see any point in worrying about this when the signal is loud to ...

Re: Quick record on AM

Rick, PLEASE tell me how you get it (QUICK REC/PLAY) to work on SSB! I posted a thread on this as well some time ago although regarding SSB/CW and it is still an outstanding issue here. The Quick Record/Playback simply doesn't work that I can tell. I have options set at Receive from audio ... I hit ...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

I ask this only to be thorough - I'd hazard a guess you know this - but when you say "along with 40m after 9pm" that seems to me to imply not 'noise' that the NB is designed to deal with but random band noise. At night of course 40 and 80 'go long' and storms and the like can all mash up t...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

and let me finish with ... I tried testing on a SSB signal that was just above the noise. Without any noise abatement: the station is at best an R3 (readability 3) but most of the time unreadable. I can tell its there ... that's about it. With NR2: station remains at an R3 With NB2: station is easil...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

a quick note - I am using NB2 right now on 10 meters ... in one direction the noise, whatever its coming from (yet to seek out) is quite bad ... NB2 reduces it by 13 db! That is BIG! The difference between NO contacts and many... it produces a curve on the panadapter when I'm using USB (96Khz width)...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

As purely a DXer ... one that doesn't rag chew much at all ... (I'm polite - but I don't generally go over 5 minutes or so) ... and that is often listening to weak signals I think NR2 is most often not called for. I will add one important point: NR2 works best when QSB isn't in play . Otherwise sinc...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

I had posted a response to this but for whatever reason it never showed up.... I have a different take from you and Scott - I find the NB2 NB to be fantastic - or at least quite a bit superior to the one on the FTdx5000 (which was better than the Icom ProIII it replaced). I've compared the 2, the 5K...

Re: Diversity Operations

My point was that I was trying to find out what it did - when one invoked SD, what does it do other than phase lock the receivers? Does it do anything to the AGC for example as that could account for the change. Note although the perception is I'm hearing an increase in S/N, albeit very small, it mi...

Re: Diversity Operations

Re: RX2 RF output?

CAUTION! Just as a caution - Scott had suggested a DC Block inline with a RX preamp - however note that isn't going to work and in some/most/all cases will not prevent the preamp from being damaged if it is going to get damaged by having the jack grounded. Adding a DC Block, a capacitor inline - is ...

Re: Diversity Operations

Stereo Diversity: I'd love to know what this is doing exactly ... I know the principal - phase locked so that you have signal phase coherence and thus "overlap" ... if using antennas that are different polarization, as an example, one can literally 'see' (hear) the signal as it curls in th...

Re: N1MM+ with PSDR mRX on CW

Thanks Chris ... what you lay out is indeed what I tried ad nauseum. The one thing I didn't try was to minimize the telnet. I'll try this again and just for testing I'll shut off Telnet in N1MM entirely ... see what that does. Note that the one guy I mentioned in my post on Yahoo is using Telnet (VE...

Re: N1MM+ with PSDR mRX on CW

Yes - thanks Scott... I tried that. That is what I'm doing actually. It seems that it isn't divorcing the iambic keyer (internal one) when using this - it isn't configuring itself as a straight key. What I haven't tried - and I don't know if I can do it - is to turn the Primary off (or maybe set it ...

N1MM+ with PSDR mRX on CW

Hopefully someone can help. I've searched this forum, the Yahoo forum, N1MM site, youtube and google to no avail... I have N1MM+ 'connected' to PSDR. I am using the CAT RTS/DTS for PTT/CW. It works - sort of. Unfortunately it appears there is a conflict between N1MM sending code and the internal key...

Re: Rx2 on Anan8000 DLE

I"m actually surprised how RX2 is wired on the 8000DLE. The RX2 antenna jack is grounded where as the input to the filter bank is left floating! Ideally it should be the RX2 input on the BPF board (feeding FL2) that gets grounded on TX! This would prevent anything from getting in to RX2, just b...

A follow up on my experience using Stereo Diversity (SD). It works very well. I use it all the time now on 80 and 160. I have on 80 a rotary dipole at 144' as the transmit antenna ... and on 160 a 90' vertical T with 36 120' radials. For RX I use a Hi-Z 8/4 vertical array which consists of 2 4 eleme...

Hello Prem - Chris has a detailed write up on using MIDI .... I believe Scott has the only info re TouchOSC including his videos. I abandoned it after I got a Behringer Studio 2A midi panel. It does all that I need wonderfully. I'm very pleased using it.

Scott, thanks for that. Yes I am aware of the principals and the expectation of results. Literally signals swinging left to right - which is what I had expected and ...
